  1. 1. For the moment I do not have any questions about the school's procedures or policies, but I wanted to know if friends or family could stay in the dorm with a student? I know at other schools, ex. Nicolls State University, you can stay in the dorm for twelve dollars. That is all I wanted to know and wondered about.

    2. I think what would be useful is knowledge on what not to do. If we knew what not to do, then I think we would not have any trouble doing the right things. I think upperclassmen giving us information on study habits was helpful. It helped me understand to put priority first and wants later. I was here at Dillard over the summer, so I think I know what is all offered to me and where to go if I need help, but I dont know everything and I would gladly take any useful information.

    3. I think I will help Dillard be even more well known. I knew what Dillard University was and where it was, but I didnt know what it was about. I would like to be or see representatives of DU to go outside of New Orleans and inform schools of what Dillard has to offer. I love to be in leadership positions and I love producing growth in what I'm leading.

  3. Chazley,

I have heard that when space is available there is a possibility to pay to stay on campus a night or two. Please check with Residential Life for the details.

Again space being available is the key, I had not heard about being in the room with students and their roommates.

  12. To All,

Many of you speak about bringing pride, honor and excellence to the university, how do you exhibit thoses attributes? Is it in the way you carry yourself? In the way you move about the campus? How you speak to oneanother?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Chardai Grays

    1. As of now, i do not have any questions about the student handbook, catalog policies, or procedures.

    2. I the most helpful advice would have to be "Treat college like a job". You work from 8-5 and then after that then MAYBE you will have the time to play around. However, you may have to work overtime a lot.

    3. I believe I will bring excellence, pride, and determination to Dillard's legacy. From the beginning of this college experience, it has been a struggle to adjust. However with those attributes, I will prevail.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 1. I completely understand everything that I have read. I don't have any questions about the student handbook, catalog policies, or procedures.

    2. I predict that the most helpful advice will be to be determined, stay focus, not party, study, and pay attention during lectures.

    3. I believe that I can contribute my good spirit, willingness, and my talent. I also believe that Dillard has more to contribute to me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1) I currently do not have any questions about Dillard's student handbook.

    2) The advice from a Dillard alumni or upperclassmen that will be most helpful to my success came from a fellow Mass Communications major. He said to start participating in things pertaining to your major early because the more interships you have, and the more clubs you join or create, will enable you to get a good job in the future. It also looks good on your resume.

    3) I've been giving motivational, religious, and political speeches in from of thousands of people since the age of seven. Its my passion. I can contribute that to the Dillard University Legacy.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1. At this point, I don't really have any more questions about the student handbook, cataglop policies, or the procedures. I think some of the procedures (curfew) suck, but I pretty much understand what they are.

    2. The advice that I received from the upperclassmen that will probably be most helpful to my success, is that what the experience I have while here will be what I make it. Sure I'm here to graduate, but I have no doubt that that will happen. So I don't really need anybody telling me to go to class or to study. With that said, I'm only really concerned about my success in extra curriculars, networking, fun, etc...

    3. I'm going to contribute to the Dillard legacy by being another one of its exceptional graduates. When I figure out what I'm going to do with my life I'll be able to further answer the question.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1. I do not have any further questions about the student handbook, catalog procedures, or policies. I believe all my questions were answered well and in detail by a professor. An alumni graduate and now teacher taught me and a group of other students a history lessons.

    2. The most helpful advice I recieved from an upperclassman was at the Houston Send Off Party. An upperclassman told us that if you treat school like a 9-5 job then you won't have anything to do once 5 o'clock rolls around. That means studying and doing work even if your last class ends at 12 noon. That is very helpful to me.

    3. I want to add to the Dillard Legacy another graduate with excellence. Not only do I want to be another female nurse to graduate but I want to be remembered as someone who always helped her classmates with whatever it is that they needed. I want to be known as a happy person that always laughed and smiled and when I tell people I graduated from here I want to say it with pride. I want people to feel comfortable with me and give them the insight that we are a big family here.

    1.)Currently, i have no questions.

2.)The best advice from an upper classmen would be the best way to survive in the major and the cheapest way to buy books.

3.)I strongly believe in hard work. Dillard is a hard working student. As a theatre major, my goal is excellence. My journey is success. I'm an all- around down to earth person, so I will hopefully be known to everybody as a strong individual who likes to be there for anybody.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. I have no questions regarding any of the specified materials.

    2. I believe the most helpful advice I could receive from a Dillard upperclassman or graduate would most likely be their study habits and test taking strategies. Anything I need to work on that they can help me with will make me a better student.

    3. I believe I will add another successful african american to the Dillard legacy. After I become a world famous doctor I plan on representing Dillard as the greatest HBCU for giving me the opportunity to be what I dreamed to be along with a number of other successful students.

  20. To Tan-Talaysha M Bailey,

Joining extra curricular activities, clubs, and what not is truly a great way to aspire in school. Its great for networking and helps with getting to know more people.

    To Dominique Bryant,

You're right college life isn't about partying and the best way to succeed is to stay focused. If you haven't noticed, a lot of kids at LSU end up staying an extra year or two to try and graduate because they were too busy partying.

    To Misha,

What would you do if you didnt have many classes in the morning and a bunch of classes after 5? How would you change your work habits?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Shautera,
I think I will try and make those contributions by studying hard, being successful in all my classes so that I can move forward and not backwards in school. I would basically just try to be on top of things

    3. I think i can contribute by being one of the best chemist that graduated from Dillard University.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Andrew Tadros:

That is a good question. If I had my classes the other way around I would obviously have to study during the day time. It would be more of a discipline thing to get up early in the morning if I knew I didnt have a class until after 5. I think that is why I scheduled my classes the way I did. I know what works for myself.

    Cherelle Palmer:

The best way to get through the major and the cheapest way to buy books is excellent. Best advice I've heard.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1) I do not have any questions about the catalog polices, everything you need is bascically in there as well as the student handbook.

    2) The advice that would be most helpful would be if someone could explain to me how to balance school, work and extra curricular activities.

    3) I think that I will contribute a sense of determination to the Dillard Legacy, because I am the first person in my family to attend college and I am determined to succeed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. To Tequelia:

I agree with you when you say that you believe Dillard has a lot to contribute to you. I am fully ready to accept all the help and support I can from my DU family, because we can not make it alone.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I currently don't have any questions about the handbook. I would like to talk to a upper classman aboyt their transition to college and abouot the teachers they had in the past. I would look to them for guidance because what im going through they already did it. I will contribute to Dillard but studying, asking for help when needed, and be as active in my community as I can. Dillard will help me achieve my goals.

I beieve as of now all i can contribute to the Dillard legacy is being a student and taking up biology! Maybe in a few years i'll have something more essential to contribute to the Dillard legacy.

Also I agree with Wanda Burkes on the study time management thing. It really is important to be organized and keep up with your studies!

    1. What questions do you still have about the student handbook, catalog policies, or procedures?
At this time I do not have any further questions about the handbook, catalog policies and or procedures. However, I am ready to see what this book has in store since it was very expensive and demanded that it be purchased.

    2. What advice from a Dillard graduate or an upper classman do you predict will be the most helpful to your success?
I think informing me of how certain professors teach and what are the best methods to be successful in their classes would be extremely beneficial.

    3. Share your thoughts about what you believe you will contribute to the Dillard legacy.
As of now I am not sure how I will be able to contribute to the Dillard legacy, but I have been blessed so far and left marks at all of my previous schools, I do not feel that Dillard will be any different. I believe I will be able to contribute the most to this institution because I will be given the greatest opportunity to express myself as a young intellectual student

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous I feel the same way about trying to figure out how to study and not procrastinate. That's a bad habit i have to break.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Chazley I think i remember reading that if you have a guest the only way they can stay with you is if you are the same sex. i can't remember for how many nights and what the procedures are to actually getting premission for that is though.

  35. Misha i liked what your wrote about what you wanted to add to the legacy of Dillard University. I feel the same way.

    ReplyDelete
  36. what i will bring to dillard's legacy is my and all and all meaning my talent of theater i will bring to dillard by performing in every play as well as just bring myself and myself is a person who is going to represent dillard on and of the campus. i will also try to keep it peaceful around here and stay out of harms way. no questions about the book. a person i can probably go to for advice is a senior named kenae she is really cool and her grades show me that she knows exactly what to do to stay at dillard and succeed in getting a great education.

  39. This Bridget Sisney

    1. I still haven't gotten my course catalog, so im still waiting on that one.

    2. Well, from all the upperclassmen i've talked with the most important and helpful thing they've told me was to be aware of time management and keeping my priorities in line.they were telling me about balancing fun, extra curriculars and schoolwork. And that getting involved was good, but be sure to know and understand my limits because it very easy to get behind and overwhelmed with everything.

3.I'm not sure just yet exactly wat my contribution will be, but i have my goals and morals that i came here with that i believe and live by so i know come may 2013 im still going to have them plus more. So i plan to continue what has already been lain by previous Dillard women. Im going to leave behind memories of a women who cared herself in such way that showed character, strength, creativity, and respect for herself as well as others.

  40. 1.)The only thing that I'm really concerned with at the moment is the fact that I have yet to recieve a written "book" catalog for 2009-2010. I understand that we have the catalog on cd, which is convient for most but I would still like to have an actual book catalog.
2.) So far the most helpful advice that I have recieved from an upperclassmen is to buy rain boots and a heavyduty umbrella. Additionally, one upperclassmen told me to build a relationship with a professor in my division so that I can be informed about different oppurtunities.
3.) Upon graduating from Dillard and a dual md/phd graduate program, I plan to contribute to Dillard by donating my time and money to Dillard University and its students to promote their success.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Clarence Carr>>> Yea, I almost forgot a couple people were telling me about my professors also and the only way to pass with an A is to study hard and stay on top of everything.

Bridget Sisney>>> Yes girl I'm waiting too!

Josefpons>>> That's cool about how you feel about theatre and acting and I hope that works out for you.

  42. #1) I am pretty clear as to the procedures, student handbook and catalog polices....BESIDES....WHY DO WE HAVE TO DRESS UP FOR CONVOCATION WHEN WE ARE NOT HAVING CHURCH, IT'S MORE OF A FRESHMAN MEETING THAT HAPPENDS TO BE HELD IN A CHURCH? I KNOW IT'S RESPECTFUL TO WEAR CHURCH ATTIRE IN A CHURCH, BUT STILL...

#2) I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful upper classman like RUBY,SHAUNESSEY,JUAN,KANDON,SABRINA,WHITNEY,BRANDY,COREY AND MANY MORE! Most of their messages have been surrounded around the same ideologies of, "take advantage of all of the resources on campus, get involved with different organizations, networking is everyones nitch, talk to your professors when they have open office time and MOST IMPORTANTLY: STUDY FIRST, PARTY LATER!" All of these things will ultimately attribute to my overall success here at DU.

#3) There are a plethora of goals on my list to do before I graduate in 2013, like joining the school council, opening up a tutoring session in one of the halls for math and English classes, joining committee’s that make Dillard University's social liveliness fun, memorable and academically life changing. I also want to be soar leader the next 3 years, because the registration week for us 2 weeks ago looked like it NEEDED volunteers. Hopefully, I can fabricate a social sisterhood club where young women can come together and have a sisterhood, be comfortable in their own skin and be able to talk about whatever their experiences are here at Dillard University, and whatever else. Before all of these goals can come into play, I have to make sure that I stay on top of my academic classes. No one should worry more about what they can contribute Dillard’s legacy, if they cannot contribute and dedicate themselves to their academic classes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. 1. As of now I have no questions about the DU handbook or procedures.

    2. I think great advice from a Dillard graduate would be how to handle a full schedule without falling behind.

    3. I plan to contribute my time, hard work and commitment to the Dillard legacy.

on a daily basis i am being told by upperclassmen to keep my grades and gpa up. they say weither or not i know it, this is the semester that will make or break me. they tell me to stay up on my homework and not to fall behind in class.

as i sated in my journal.... i will just be another sucessful person that dillard can add to their hall of success.

3.)I feel i will leave academic achievement and the excellents of community service project of all time.

@ mikcal, i totally agree because if you dont keep your grades up you may not able to come back next year, or transfer to any other school you want.

    3. i expect to add to Dillard's legacy by starting a club to improve the school. i would like to form a club which could transform the camous into a much better place. In doing so, i expect to make myself part of Dillard's legacy.

    2. I think that advice regarding proper study habits, seeking help when needed (as well as who to go to for the assistance), and how to manage time(school work, your job, personal time, etc) will be some of the key factors in determining my success at Dillard.

3.I believe that i can give future dillard students insight on just how important their education is, not only because they pay so much for it, but because the knowledge we ascertain is indeed something that cannot be bought. In addition i think my good qualities, traits, and habits are all important and useful attributes that should be added to the D.U. legacy.

As they all say this semester will determine whether are not we are ready for college. A few Dillard alumni also stressed to me that once you drop your G.P.A it is very difficult to bring it back up. They have also talked to me about getting more involved and active. This advice will help me to be successful and be a part of Dillard's legacy.

    3. I most defintely want to graduate and be a part of Dillard's Legacy. Being a first generation graduated I will fulfill this dream. I plan to be one of the best graduating from DU's Nursing program. My determination began Septemember 8th.

    1. Surprisingly, I have no questions at the moment. Everything was clear to me and I understood it thoroughly.

    2. Some advice I received was that I should stay ahead if possible on all work and that freshman year is the most crucial year.

    3. I believe that I can contribute alot to the Dillard legacy. I am not one to make sure that I am recognized for the work that I have done. I'd rather let my work speak for itself and not get recognition for it. So with that said, I would rather let my actions or my work speak for itself.

    2. The advice from an upper classman that would be most helpful to me would be their analysis of the professors and what their teaching habits are. If I know how the teachers behave and the behavior they expect from their students, I will be better prepared for their classes and less likely to disappoint them.

    3. I plan to one dday become a professor at Dillard University. This would give me the oppourtunity to share the love and appreciation that I have gained and will continue to gain in the next four years, with the generation of students who will attend school here when I am a student.

2.What advice from a Dillard graduate or an upper classman do you predict will be the most helpful to your success?

The advice from a Dillard alumni or upperclassmen that will be most helpful to my success came from an International Business major. He say’s to always ask questions, no question is a stupid question. He also told me, because my major is undecided to go to every division and talk to them about what goes on in their fields and how much will you get paid annually.

3.Share your thoughts about what you believe you will contribute to the Dillard legacy.

I will contribute success to the Dillard legacy. I want to better myself and have foundation when I leave here and go back to California. I want to be a number; a number of one of the students who graduates and not drops out. A number who will get a degree when I leave here.

    1) No, I dont have any questions about the handbook

    2) The most important information i've gotten from an upperclassmen is know where you stand as far as your grades. Seeing as how we just came from high school we dont no much about the grading systems and/or cycles and we are somewhat left in the dark if you arent constantly on your teachers. I,myself am used to mandatory progres reports, and report card every 6 weeks. This is not avaliable at this university, and it will take the most time to adapt to.

    3) I feel like I can contribute leadership in this student body as well as creativity. I feel as though i'm a natural born leader meaning that its implanted in my DNA. Which is why I decided to run for the Freshperson Attendant. But, I also like to get a feel for things before I do them. I had to get a feel for the student body and how wil they react to certain situations that may arise from my actions. Which is why i decided to drop out of the race. But over all I feel that now I know what is expected of each title. I better know how to pick where I best fit.

  84. 1. What questions do you still have about the student handbook, catalog policies, or procedures?

I have read and understood the student handbook and catalog polices. The only questions I have are regarding the Dormitory guidelines. It is not fair for the school to be implementing rules throughout the year when they should have given it to us through the registration process or the beginning of residential life reg.. They knew that they accepted a number of students; which should have been equivalent to the rooms available. They knew that the dorms were not ready, what is up with the lack of organization around Dillard?

    2. What advice from a Dillard graduate or an upper classman do you predict will be the most helpful to your success?

The best help an upper classman or alumni can give is to help keep our spirits up. I would like for them to pull us to the side and ask questions like how’s school going, how do you like Dillard so far, is there anything I can do to help you out in your areas of issue or difficulty at Dillard? Be more interactive with the freshmen, plan things we can have interactions with the upperclassmen. I would feel much better for myself to actually know that someone cares for your success other than me.

    3. Share your thoughts about what you believe you will contribute to the Dillard legacy.

What I plan to contribute to the Dillard legacy would be the entertainment I bring when I dance, so I will be doing some dancing for the Up incoming Blue Devils.
