One problem i have had since being at Dillard is dealing with registration. It was very stressful and aggravating but i got through it. By evaluating the situation and realizing that no matter what i had to go through registration i just thought of ways how not to let anything bother me.And that was my form of critical thinking.
ReplyDeleteOrganization is a major issue with Dillard, and that's an issue.I propose one system be used by everyone meaning all faulty and staff that way its easier to stay organized and find thing when the time is right.

ReplyDeleteI totally agre you on the registration problem Jasmine...i think that was hard for everyone!!
By communicating my questions and issues effectively to the Dillard staff is how i made it through registration week.
There needs to be better communciation. Instead of sending students from place to place to get their schedules straight. working with accurate information and then being able to relay the information to those whom it concerns would help with all the chaos, confusion, disorganizaton.

ReplyDelete1.My biggest problem with Dillard thus far has been parking, for the first week I observed both parking lots and realized the parking lot on side Dent always have an open space even though I hate parking in the back I just leave a little early so I can get to class on time.
2. The huge puddles on campus needs solving, I observed as walking to my classes around campus there aren't alot of drains on campus, but until thats fixed I guess I will just have to purchase rain boots like they told me.

ReplyDelete1. The worst problem I've had at Dillard so far is getting my classes onto Blackboard. I have still yet to accomplish this task, but after asking around I decided to go to I.T. to get this problem solved. I came to conclusion that the best way of knowing things about Dillard if you are an off campus student is to talk to as many people as possible.
2. Dillard needs a better way of getting information out to all students (on or off campus). Email is the fastest and easiest way.
1 & 2. My problem with Dillard is probably the fact that its sometimes to easy to get past security and getting through without being noticed. I had a problem with students that didnt pay for a meal plan and still came thru the cafeteria without paying. All they had to do was show their ID and they were let in to eat. That currently has changed and we have stickers on our IDs verifying that we paid for a meal plan. My other concern that security is working on is the dorms. Students are staying in the dorms and they never paid a housing fee! I paid for a meal plan and housing, so yes I have a problem with this. I also have a problem with security at the main gates. Someone can tell security they're there to drop a student off or to see a student and security will let them in. I think if students are being dropped off then they should show some kind of identification. If it is a parent of a student, I think the parent should give some kind of information on the student so that security knows their child is on campus. Or for vistors and parents, they can sign a check-in sheet and leave identification. I think these are my only major concerns and I will be glad to help change things.

ReplyDelete1.)Lately i haven't had a problem here besides some of the classes being full and that's pretty normal...but no i haven't had any problems and I hope not to either.
2.)One problem to me and a few others is parking...alot of parking spots are usually filled during during the day...maybe if there was a chance more places could be open as parking spots would be good,,,or just come early =/.
one problem that i really am having trouble with my study habits and time management. i cant ever seem to make enough time for all the homework and studying i have to do. i always seem a little preoccupied. what i think i need to do is surround myself with positve and motivated ppl that will help me stay on track.

1.) Books are hard to get for cheap. TO say that there are only a few theatre majors at this college, there are never enough theatre books. Since i can never actually buy the book, I finally decided to order it online. Its easier and less costly.
2.) One thing they need to work on is the early ordering of books for the semester. In the future, students should be able to order their books on the Dillard website before the beginning of school.
1.) I am sure that many can agree that one of the most stressful.tedious processes was the registration/financial aid process. It was a hectic process, however finally, when all was said and done things worked out fine. I used critical thinking in several ways, thinking about the best choices for classes given the situation most of us were in(lack of availability of classes), making the best judgements as well as constantly checking on updates with schedule changes and my Financial process, which in the end, worked out just fine.
ReplyDelete2.)One major issue on this campus has to be miscommunication. I would like to make a proposition that in thg future, their be clarity between all sources of authority and students, both on and off campus, to ensure a smoother process here at Dillard.
1)An issue that I've had since coming to Dillard is the purchasing of books. Every teacher is demanding that we have our books by a certain day and we must have them in order to enter their class. What they fail to realize is that (a) The books cost a lot of money (b) Not all of the used versions of the books are in stock in the book store (c) It takes time for mail to come and (d) Some of us have to pay off the rest of our tuition out of pocket. I used critical thinking to decide which of the books are most important to my education right and which I will have to wait for. Thus far I've been able to buy all my books except one.
ReplyDelete2) An issue on this campus is the lack of working items in the dorms. Either the washing machines are broken, the elevator is broken, or the microwaves/stoves are broken. A way to fix this is the have frequent maintainance on these items and also fundraising to buy new items.
1. one big problem that i had was getting my schedule made correctly. many classes that i needed were all full. the classes that were left all conflicted in times. so i persitently went to my counselor so she could help me repair my schedule. when she couldn help, i went to the teachers so i could enroll in their classes. my strong thinking and persistance helped my repair my problems.
ReplyDelete2. communication between students and teachers is really limited. to fix this problem, teachers should extend their office hours and be more willing to pay attention to students.
1. Well one of my biggiest problems has been washing clothes because we dont have quarter machines. My critical thinking skills told me to go down the street and get some change.
ReplyDelete2.how could i do better in english class
My best bet would be to pay more attention in class
I agree with you on the quarter problem Twinn. I feel like we pay all this money for tution and room and board, and then we get here and still have to pay to wash our clothes. Laundry should be a part of the room and board price...just as our meals are...its crazy ..what if we had a meal plan but had to pay for plates and silverware.. that the kinda crazy it is with this laundry issue...but thats just my opinion
ReplyDelete1. Describe a problem or issues you've had since being at Dillard, how did critical thinking help you find a solution?
ReplyDeleteOne of the biggest problems I have faced thus far being at Dillard has been the kitchen. Not only are there about 200+ people who reside in Williams for a long period of time we were all forced to use the same kitchen on the first floor. 200+ in one small kitchen does not equal cleanliness, quick cooking sessions and sanity. Knowing this I have figured out times that people are less like to be in the kitchen so that I can microwave my food (since the stoves are off) and get out in a good pace and get back to DU homework.
2. Post an issue that needs solving uses critical thinking to offer 1 suggestion to solve.
The issue that needs solving that I see currently is Dillard turning back on the stoves!!!! I have spent well over 100 dollars on food that needs to be cooked on the stove top and or in the oven. The stoves have been cut off, and after many questions there is still no real reason why, or at least the students who pay large amounts of tuition here are unaware. I believe a solution to this problem would be to speak to someone of higher authority who authorized the cutting off of the gas in the Williams hall residency and hope for a real answer with a real date when they will be turned back on.
1. A problem that I've had since being at Dillard has been with my schedule and communication among the staff. When I came to Dillard for registration week, I wanted to go back home because it was so unorganized. I thought it was getting better, until I had to make multiple trips to Rosenwald due to problems with my schedule. After my schedule was fixed, I noticed that when I went to check on financial aid that there was mis-communication among the faculty and staff. I was telling one lady what another told me to do and she was looking like she didnt have a clue of what i was talkin about. I was persistent in going back to whomever or whatever building I had to, until my problems were solved.
ReplyDelete2. Dillard needs to either thoroughly prepare, or have a back up plan for a large class. Faculty and staff claimed that things were so hectic because our class was large, but that could have easily been taken care of with better planning.
1. The problem I have since being at dillard is that my Business Communications teacher has yet to appear in class.
ReplyDelete2. The puddles aroun dillard can be irrating. One suggestion is to build a drainage system.
Anonymous
ReplyDeletei totally agree with you on the unorganization thing. Registration was one of the worst moments here at Dillard University. They had you running from room to room just to fill papers out. it was horrible so i agree with you on their organization rules!!!
1. A critical issue that i have had since i have been at Dillard is how Williams HAll is always dirty. Since the first week, Williams Hall expecially the first floor kitchen has been dirty. I stay on the third floor and it seems that it never gets cleaned in the hallways. The kitchen issue has been getting a little better but not enough for me to use it.
ReplyDelete2. I agree with Lance. The puddles here on campus are horrible. I think a drainage system would help out with the constant water build up on the walkways.

ReplyDelete1. Describe a problem or issues you've had since being at Dillard, how did critical thinking help you find a solution?
The problem I had at Dillard was a math issue. I couldn’t understand what was going on. I kept doing the homework to the best of my ability. Since math is my weakness, I found a couple of people who were in my math class. We grouped up and helped one another out. I don’t think critical thinking helped me out. It was more of common sense kind of thing. When u need help you go and seek it. It won’t come to you!
2. Post an issue that needs solving uses critical thinking to offer 1 suggestion to solve.
Organization at Dillard is a serious issue that needs to be solved. This a very unorganized school, especially when it comes to registration and preparing the schedules. The staff members should come together and come up with ideas as how to do registration different for freshmen next year. As far as schedules go, they just need to not switch and add classes in the middle of the semester!
to you= Twinn H.Rap Brown
ReplyDeletei agree with you, how are they going to hve washers and dryers with NO QUARTER MACHINE?? that makes no sense whatsoever.
walking down the street, anything could happen, they dont think about thee odds of that

right, to get my classes were hell. classes were full, people were everywhere where they shouldnt have been. crital thinking told me to tlk t the provosts! thats where you should have went

ReplyDelete#1) I completely concur with the majority above: registration was extremely unorganized and I can't ever get any quarters to wash unless I walk to Family Dollar prior to washing. However, one of the main issues that I've been facing is trying to get my scholarships transfered to Business and Finance so that I can academically survive and purchase all of the resources I need in order to fully succeed.
#2) Dillard University needs to find an effective way of communicating what's happening on campus besides taking papers and tape and assuming they're going to do the job. Maybe they need to start an informative organization that fabricates posters, knocks on doors and other effective ways of communicating information better.

1. A problem that I have had since being at Dillard was, scheduling my classes. Most of the classes were full and it was like hell waiting on them to be opened.
2. An issue that needs solving, is the issue of not knowing about different events that are going in the Dillard community. This issue can be solved by sending emails or announcing the events well ahead of time.
1.Describe a problem or an issue you've had since being at Dillard, how did critical thinking help you find a solution?
ReplyDeletethe problems I have had since I have been at Dillard is how unorganized everything is. I never knew anything could be so unorganized until I had to register for my room and for my classes. In my opinion critical thinking could not have helped me with these situations.
2.Post an issue that needs solving, use critical thinking to offer 1 suggestion to solve.
An issue that I think needs to be solved is how the clearance process is ran during orientation.
I think that they should do the clearance in alphabetic order.
1)Tan-Talaysha,
ReplyDeletei never knew we had so many problems going on in Williams with the appliances but I do know about that elevator. The elevator breaks like 3 times a day. They really should do aomething about that before it breaks down while someone is in it.
2)Lance Breaux,
I agree with you about the puddles. I promise sometimes it feels like I'm going to drown if I step in one of the puddles.
3)Dominique Bryant
Since I been here I thought that Dillard was boring because we never had anything going on since orientation. Now I see that they just do a bad job of advertising things so I agree with you.
1.) I agree with the majority about registartion, its ridiculous in some cases people waited 6 to 8 hours just to be told that they owe nothing and in some instances Dillard owed money to the students. My critical thinking to solving this problem is informing through the evaluation sheet suggestions or ways that Dillard should handle their registration next year. There were so many things that went wrong butr we can't focus on that we have to look at how can Dillard make registration less stressful and more productive.
ReplyDelete2.)Dillards way of informing students of campus events is very unorganized. Now I'm not saying that we should go knock on everyones door and inform them, which is a good idea but the reality of that is little to none. But maybe posting events on facebook, sending emails through our DU student account or something that students use everyday. Using the many social networks to inform students would be one way of solving this problem.

ReplyDelete1) My biggest issue is with buisness and finance and financial aid. There is a new system in place and that takes time to get use too. I understand that. BUT.. there is no way that if all of my aid is here, certified, and with check numbers, should I have a negative balance. They're saying that there are a list of students that are "exceptions" meaning our aid is here but its just not rolling over :-/ Sooooo my critical thinking told me to regroup (because I was pissed) and come back everyday with a positive attitude and continue to get on there nerves... and lets just say i was sucessful
Shakira Hunt Said....
ReplyDelete2) An issue that needs to be solved is the issue of quarters. After brainstorming on it, my suggestion is to elect someone that is trustworthy and has transportation to colllect everyone's money and go get quarters from the bank every week.
1. One of the issues that I've had since I've been here is the lack of freedom we get. As young adults, I don't think everything should be so regulated. It's getting rather ridiculous. All the powers that be are quick to say that this is not high school, but they sure don't treat us like it isn't. I honestly don't think critical thinking would be too helpful in this situation. I guess I just have to get over it and move on.
ReplyDelete2. An issue that needs solving is the issue of having to pay to wash and dry clothes with four quarters. I believe it could be solved if the school would include washing in room & board. They might also consider giving us prepaid cards so that we don't have to go through so much to get change.
Everyone, I agree that the disorganization on this campus is a problem that needs to be fixed.
ReplyDeleteClarence, I also think that measures need to be taken to make sure that the kitchen situation gets handled.
Shakira, I agree that business and finance needs to get it together. I also think that the university needs to ensure that outside scholarships are awarded. I don't think that the aide awarded by dillard should be reduced because students get other scholarships. I think that all aide earned should be kept.
1.)Since I've been at Dillard honestly I haven't had an issue. Well i don't think there should be a curfew due to the fact that we are all young adults, but if that's the rule I must abide. I agree with the quarter situation but it's college and I just got over that problem.
ReplyDelete2.) I think Dillard needs just a tad bit more organization, because of all the freshmen that they have this year. There must be a better way of getting up all together than just saying everything is mandatory or putting up signs.Honestly, everybody doesn't read those signs like their suppose to or takes the word MANDATORY seriously.I suggest that when something is coming up such as an activity, all the students should get a text messages. Hey, today every teenager has a cell phone that is always on them so what better way to let us know what's going on than to send a simple text message, telling us what its about, where and what time.(Just an opinion)
1.Since I've been at Dillard the only problem I've truely had is my financial aid. With that comes the problem of not having ALL my book for my classes.
ReplyDelete2.I have financial aid problems. The best thing i can think of to do is continue to meet with my counselor until some work study loosens up; and find a job.
1) One of the problems I had at Dillard was figuring out when I have any of my classe. What I did was put all my classes on a schedule in an organizer that I take with me everywhere, so I can always reference from it.
ReplyDelete2) My current problem is finding and setting study times and reading times. My schedule shifts so much with extra curriculars it is hard to set a stable time.
Markeisha,

ReplyDeleteOh how I wish it were possible for all aid to be awarded. but the truth is that scholarships have specific guidelines. If a scholarship is for tuition then once the funds are applied other scholarships (even those from Dillard must be reduced) The best way to get the full advantage of scholarships is to look for a balance. For instance, if you have a tuition scholarship from Dillard, look for other scholarships that pay for other things, like room and board or books.
Another way is to look for scholarships that have no stipulations. Wording like "torwards a college education" can include many other things besides tuition.
Make time to see your FA counselor for more details
Shakira,
ReplyDeleteI like your idea about the weekly run to the bank, but because of safety concerns, you may want to consider a stroll with a group of friends to the banks on Elysian Fields and Gentilly.
It is a nice short walk that can provide you the quarters and an opportunity to get a bit of exercise, and some down time with friends.
Destiny D.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a plan that you think could work for registration?
1. A problem I had was the shortage of books and most of the math classes being everyday. They are 3 credit hours but we go for more than 4 hours and it really makes my schedule hectic. I rarely have a break and there is nothing I can do to fix this problem but deal with it so thats what I do.
ReplyDelete2. Some of the classes are getting too big, how are we going to fix that problem next semester or in the future to bring Dillard back to its expected Student Teache Ratio?
1) About the quarter situation, I really dont trust too many people wit my moeny so since I live in the Duals I jus go to Dollar Store and get some. If somebody comin to visit me or somethin then I tell em to jus bring me some quarters when they're out and i'll give em da money when they bring me the quarters.
ReplyDelete2) I agree wit Felisha they need to enforce the mandatory meetings but they have to make sure everyone knows about it. On the same hand they can't make everything mandatory to where we leave the meeting and everybody is pissed because they dont kno what the point of it was or it was an unimportant matter, because its not fair to the people who have better things to do. A lot of those meetings should be optional.
3) Alexjandra you cant jus have extra curricular activities taking control of all of your free time. What you need to do is pace yourself and let some of those activities go because your school work is jus as if not more important than those activities. You really shouldnt be overwhelmed your first year.
1. A problem that i have at dillard , is the sickness problem that has been going around the campus . Now, i know that one person cant solve all these issues , but i do live on campus and i have caught a fever of 103 and a stomach virus . My critical thinking have brought me to come up with maybe we should provide much more hand sanitzer , and a maybe every one in a while the maintenace should spray anti bacteria spray ( lysol) in the hall ways , at least thats what i do .
ReplyDelete2. The alarms of the side doors in the Dorms . I believe is pretty silly .. Regardless of the restraints they put on us people are still going to do what they feel . Plus the Curfew , but i doubt that they would actually listen to us on that subject .
1. Time management has been my biggest thing, so that I can get all my stuff in on time without throwing it together at the last minute. My wife offered to coordinate all of my syllabi into one calendar, and that's helped a lot. Now I have a list of assignments for each week, and every day I look at it and decide which ones I'll complete today.
ReplyDelete2. Hunger is an issue. Waste freaks me out a little, and I notice that businesses will sometimes throw away good food. Give that food to me, or give it to a food bank. Don't add another full trash bag to the world when you could be feeding someone.
And I heartily agree with the person who said that our professors will tell us "you're not in high school anymore" but we aren't treated like adults. That's just inconsistent. If you treat us like kids, chances are we might act like kids. I'm looking at you, mandatory attendance policy.
ReplyDeleteOr if the university feels it needs to act as our parents, it should be loud and clear about it. When I hear someone say one thing and do another... it doesn't create trust.
1.Describe a problem or an issue you've had since being at Dillard, how did critical thinking help you find a solution?
ReplyDeleteI don't listen hard enough in class. I need to pay attention because I tend to ask questions about something that has already been answered.
2.Post an issue that needs solving, use critical thinking to offer 1 suggestion to solve.
Problem:Gas prices.
Solution(s): car pools, drive cars that are more fuel friendly, take a shorter or more direct route.
The major problem that I have had with Dillard University was the registration process. The registration process was very stressful; however only to find that I had been cleared since June. The process should be constructed better for next year.
ReplyDeleteOptimistically, I am very grateful to say that I am a Dillard Unviversity and that it is one of the top HBCU's in the U.S.
Jasmine Brandon
I haven't had any extreme problems since being at Dillard besides havin to try new study habits. I am still trying new ways to study. I started making flash cards && generating test on quizlet.com.
ReplyDeleteThere are two issues at Dillard that I believe are needed to be solved. The first issue is registration, I believe that someone with a higher authority should take our suggestions and come up with a better process. The second issues is the kitchen area in williams hall. I understand why they were taking away for not being clean, but we all are in college now and need to be more responsible for our own actions. I dont believe that it was fair to those who are not able to eat in kearny b/c there classes conflict with diner or have a job and have to go to bed with out eating a meal.
Kelly Williams
ReplyDeleteThe major problem that I have had with Dillard University was the registration process. The registration process was very stressful ! thats the only problem ive ran into.
1) A problem or issue i've had since being at Dillard was registration. On 9/1/09 i arrived at 1:00 thhinking that i wouldnt have a promblem and would at least be finish by 3:00, but this wasnt the case. I assume the staff at Dillard wasnt ready for as many freshman who showed up. i made it out of the gym at 7:00 that eveningand finnaly moved in Williams. The waiting was kind of stressing at first but I was relieved when I finally finish all my unpacking and had everything cleared.
ReplyDelete2) An issue I need solved is the Williams doors. The doors are suppose to open when we scan our id's but they dont work, terefore i have to walk all the way around to the front of the building which is a waist of time. Another problem i have is the security at the main gates.
1. One problem that I had been having here at Dillard was finding a way to manage my time wisely. I used the 7 step thinking skills in my DU book to come up with a plan to fix my problem. I was able to define and analyze my problem. Then I created and analyzed solutions to my problem. I began to take pratcial action by making a schedule of my time and setting a certain bedtime for myself so that I could get at least 8 hours of sleep at night. I will evaluate my plan in the next week and see if it works for me.
ReplyDelete2. One issue that needs solving is the kitchens in Williams Hall. I live on the 2nd floor and our microwave DOES NOT work. We had a microwave but apparently some people signed a petition to have it moved to the first floor. Why?? It is really inconvient to have to go downstairs to heat something. I also here that the stove on the 3rd floor does not work. We pay a lot of money for room and board and I feel that we deserve to have appliances that work.
1&2 One issue I have had so far at Dillard is trying to focus on all 8 of my classes at one time. It becomes stressful trying to complete a paper one day, then study for a test on another day, then completing your homework as well as reading and taking notes every night. It becomes very stressful especially when you're really trying to be dedicated towards all of your classes. Critical thinking helped me solve this solution because now I have an idea to come up with a time management schedule for each of my classes so I can focus on one class at a time.
ReplyDelete@ Andy Feith...
ReplyDeletePutting all of your syllabi on one calendar is a great idea. That would definitely make life easier for me because I, too, have had problems with time management.
@ Kimyana
I agree that registration was VERY HECTIC. I hope that Dillard is making plans to be better organized during next year's registraion.
@ Twinn H. Rap Brown
I agree with your quarters statement. There is a change machine in Kearny but it doesn't seem to be working. My clothes are piling up and I REALLY need to wash!
This is LaMegan Smith...
ReplyDelete1)I agree with the others when they say an issue that have been experience at Dillard was the registration process. I was in the gym from 1pm until 11pm. It was a very long and unorganized process. By critically thinking, I reached a solution. I decided to wait patiently and to think positively.
2) An issue that need solving is the registration process for incoming students. It needs to be more organize so that the time can be managed.
1. I've had a problem postponing my assignments. Critical thinking helped me realize that if I keep waiting until the last minute to do an assignment, I won't have time to get help if I need it.
ReplyDelete2. One problem is that important information does not reach student quickly. I think it should be sent in an email or posted on blackboard. Another problem is parking. Dillard has many students that drive to school. I think a few more parking lots or just one very huge parking lot should be built for student parking because we are paying to park and can barely find a spot.
One problem that ive had at Dillard is finacal aid problems. Like trying to get books paid off an also other items that we have to purchase for class an etc. But other than that i dnt have any problems at all.
ReplyDelete1.The one problem i had since i been at dillard was getting to know the campus and its rules with that i just had to remember and paced and pay attention to my surroundings.
ReplyDelete2.A problem that still exsist is the issue of the freshman class and its rules. I think that we should find a way to compromise with the staff and each other.
A problem I have had since I've been at Dillard is the fact that the elevator at Williams Hall sometimes take a while to make it to the third floor so it may cause me to run behind with classes. As a solution I either leave my room earlier or I just take the stairs.
ReplyDelete2.One issue that needs to be solved is the use of the laundry room. The third floor only has one working washing machine and people leave their clothes on the second floor and never move them so everything remains occupied. One solution is to replace the washing machines on the third floor.
Sharde':It was extremely hard trying to get all of my books paid for but i found it cheaper to go through the internet.
Raina:Procrastination is a big problem. I know because I do it a lot. Planning is helping me to improve.
Destini:Financial aid has been a hassle since we have entered Dillard. Hopefully it will get better with the passing years but we do have to be persistant as well.
1. The registration was too long and had too many steps to the equation. The musical chairs format of getting through the process was childish. I went thorugh day with my mind set on critcial thinking of if I don't do this now, I will not be in college this semester.
ReplyDelete2. Organization was one thing that was major since you first walk on campus. I suggest that they should have did the placement test on that day instead of the next week. That process conflicted with other classes that you really needed. Lastly, should had more consulars at the office instead of about five of them. That's my finally thoughts.

ReplyDelete1. The greatest problem I have encountered since being at Dillard has been finding new study habits. By taking the learning assessment, I learned new study habits and they are working out great.
2. One issue that has occurred on this campus has been security. Late at night, I tend to see a gang of boys that does that go to this school. Maybe the guards should check guests more frequently.
1.) The problem that i had at DU was with regisation, it was crazy nothing was organized. Getting regisated for my class was not good because most of the classes that i need was all getting full and i was place in classes that i really didnt need to take. The cost of books for the classes i was take was ridiculous, seems to me that the cost of tutions should have paid of the books as well. As the days went by things started to settle down and school was getting better.
ReplyDelete2.) The issus that had occurred was in williams with visitations rights and going into each other rooms. We are in college which means we are young adults and with telling us that we can't go chill in our friends room seems like their treating us like kids. They want to give us all this work to do like we are adults, they can at least let us live like adults.
1. I really havent had a problem so that will be help for me to answer.
ReplyDelete2. I really dont like all rules and the way they treat the students.
for some reason all my post is comin up anonymous but its me Maurice Steen

ReplyDeleteA problem i have had at dillard was learning where my classes are.im not used to all the walking around from class to class.Other problems i have ran into is the Jubilee Seminar,i dont know what be going on until i get in the class .its a little bit confusing!

ReplyDeleteIhaven't had a an issue yet. However registaion was unorganized. I feel Dillard should be more prepared will registering students for classes.

I agree with you my frist weekcas crazy! I'm used to being in one building for classes.
1.My problem since I've started Dillard is that it's nothing like I expected it to be. I never was able to make it to class on time at all.It was always about my job. At first I put my job before school. When I used critical thinking I thought to myself that it was either my job or school. School was going to help me succeed with job I want in life.If I give school for this job I would never be nothing but a cashier.
ReplyDelete2. My problem is that my classes are too spaced out. By me not staying on campus I have know where to go during all the breaks I have. When I try going somewhere by the time I come back I'll be late for class. My suggestion was that during that spare time I would study or do work I needed to do to catch up on.

ReplyDeleteI agree that dillard should have been more organized. I was giving the wrong classes and my schedule was messed up.
A problem I had at dillard was the whole registration process and getting to know my room mate. critical thinking I thought and worked out a compromise to statisfie both of us
ReplyDeleteA issue that really needs to be addressed is class schedules and how the process is they need to be more organized and get the classes together eailer and make sure they have room for thoese classes

ReplyDelete1.)One of the problems i have face since I've been at Dillard would have to be communication between teachers and students on blackboard. I haven't gotten my account fixed yet. So when teachers tell us as students that they posted an assignment on blackboard, what they don't understand is that half of their students are still not registered for blackboard. Why? Blackboard would not allow some people to log in at all. I am one of those people. I thought critically by emailing all my teachers that communicate through blackboard accounts and letting them know that my account is still not working. This way I won't miss assignments.
2.)Just as a suggestion, Dillard should try communicating through another teacher/student website. This website is the only one that actually works for me as far as getting and posting assignments and thoughts.

ReplyDeleteim so upset i just posted this huge discussion on here and it didnt go thru....
the only problem i have had with the school is regristration. it was very disorginzed. i shiped the whole line to get my info stright.
the problem i have to day also revolves around regristration. students weren't allowed to sign up for required courses and it pushed them pack some time with graduating. i think the school should give us free summer classes.
one problem i have is that my freshman class is not really a community yet we must develop that for everyone to have a great school year.
ReplyDelete1.A problem I have had since being at Dillard is the unorganized plans and activities. Certain activities and things do not start or end on time. Also people have a lot a problems trying to get things organized and situated like registration. Communication is also a problem, I usually hear about things through word of mouth and then when I do hear about something there are no details and I have to just go with the flow of things. Posting flyers isn’t always a good idea because with my busy schedule I do not pay attention or the flyers get pulled down. How critical thinking can solve this problem is, just like we recently had a town hall meeting I knew nothing of, I think there should be a meeting every week to discuss the things that are going on and important dates. As an off campus student it is especially hard not knowing.
ReplyDelete2. An issue that needs to be addressed is the dress code for convocation. Not everyweek do I feel like or have the proper clothes too be dressing up. If this is not for a grade or a credit I dont see it the point in it. I think that you shoulkd be able to dress as you normally do. Im an off campus student so if I come dressed a certain way I have to remain that way. I cant just run home and change.

ReplyDelete1.A problem that I've had since being at Dillard was how ot study for my first biology exam. Critical thinking helped me find a solution becuase by having common knowledge that anything that we covered in class and anything on the lecture notes may be on it, I decided to study the main points we discussed in detail and also studied with a partner.
2. An issue such as whether to buy a book or simply borrow it for a semester can be big because it deals with money. By thinking about who shares a class with me and what times we have the class, and also how many times me and the person meet with the class per week, it may be decided. If we both have the class the same day, and the book is required to get into class, the person without the book will probably buy his/her own or borrow it from someone who has the class a separate day. Personally, I had to buy a biology book, because I know that I will need and use it a lot for not only this semester, but also the next. A book such as the English book I can borrow because the person who I'm borrowing it from doesn't have the class the same day, and the book isn't really used in class or out of class thus far.

ReplyDeleteto Jalicia,
I respect that you made the decision that school comes before your job and how you utilize your time between classes wisely to get ahead.
To Jaimie Renee,
I know how you feel, registration was definitely a bad first impression of Dillard. I also feel you about the visitation situation...I'm almost scared to climb the stairs.
To Raymond Wimley,
I also can't understand how the classes were full when they could have prepared for everyone to have a class they need because they knew exactly how many freshmen were coming in for this school year.
1. Since I have been at Dillard University, finding transportation has been difficult!! I was mislead at orientation. They told the shuttle will take you whereever you want to go. The reality of that situation is that it only goes to the duals. My solution to this problem was walking, or taking a cab.
ReplyDelete2. Why aren't the kitchen facilities availible all night? If they aren't going to allow us to cook at any hour of the night, I think that Kearny or the Grill should be availible.
1. THE ONLY BIG PROBLEM I HAVE WITH DILLARD IS THE SECURITY AND RULES AT WILLIAMS HALL. MY GIRLFRIEND LIVE IN THE DORMS AND WE THOUGHT WE WERE NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO SPEND QUALITY TIME TOGETHER. BUT CRITICAL THINKING ALLOWED US TO MAKE FREE TIME AND EVERYTHING IS OKAY NOW.
ReplyDelete2. ONE ISSUE DILLARD HAS IS ORGANIZATION. NO REAL SOLUTION CAN COME OF THIS, IT HAS TO CHANGE WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION

ReplyDelete1)So far my time at Dillard has been great, but there have several issues. The one issue that stands out the most in my memory occurred during class registration. To begin there wasn’t nearly enough computers for each student to complete the process. Along with the lack of computers there was a lack of individuals to help us with the registration process. In my opinion the most frustrating part about the entire process was fact that after minutes of waiting we got to a computer only to find out that the classes we needed were full. Using my critical thinking skills I scheduled classes that were available. To be considered a full time student I needed 3 more hours, and the class I needed was full so I decided to take a class that’s required for me to take next semester. Thinking critically I successfully overcame the registration issue.
2)I find the email setup to be an issue. Like some professors are requiring us to email work using our Dillard email addresses, but nearly half of us can’t access the account. Maybe there should be secession in the library are something to show us how to login.
One problem I had to deal with is my aunt dying. I wanted to stop going to Dillard and go home. I had to weigh the pros and cons of that decision and I decided that Dillard is the school for me.
ReplyDeleteA problem that needs critical thinking is Dillard registration. My suggestion would be to keep all the classes open until they know for sure how many students will be registering. Instead of letting all freshman come register at once they should go by last name days.
1. My biggest problem at Dillard is also Reigistration process and Financial Aid. Everytime I go to one of their offices they keep sendig me back and forth and nothing gets accomplished. Critical thinkig I used was to go almost everyday util someone fully fixed my problem.
ReplyDelete2. The issue that needs to be fixed is orgaization skills. September 1 was awful and then they charged us for orientation. Its like we paid to sit there for hours to get nothing done. They need a brand new system that takes less time and has people in a better mood.
A problem I had at Dillard was getting my books. It was hard because they told me that I was able to get a book voucher, but when the time came to get one they told me that I wasnt able to get one. Critical thinking helped this situation because someone from the business and finance office had looked into my account and seen that i had enough to get a book voucher.
ReplyDelete1.Since I've started Dillard I've tried very hard to continue to be optimistic. Registration was terrible but its ok because we got through it,the new rules they make up everyday are killing us but will get through that as well, kearny closes too early for dinner but that is what we're offered, the elavator and the washing machines in willams are garbage and the rules inside of willams are worse than the rules in jail. But its ok.
ReplyDelete2.A personal issue is my failure to wake up for my 8 o'clock class.A solution to my problem could be to sleep with the tv off so that i could hear my alarm in the morning.
1.) A problem that I faced at Dillard was just learning how to adjust to the college life and being away from my family. I elimnated stress by learning my study habits from high school needed to be reevaluated and managing my time. Now I am able to enjoy college and my family stress free even though I am far from home.
ReplyDelete2.) One issue they can change at Dillard is the shuttle system. Its been a couple times where I have been at the shuttle stop and still got left. I think to solve this issues the bus drivers need to all get on one accord be on time and not leave students.
1.
ReplyDeleteWell i think the only problem i've had is with my old roommate and some of the company i keep, to resolve each problem i can change the company i keep and since the roommate i was having problems with moved out that problem kinda resoved itself.
2.
Post an issue that needs solving, use critical thinking to offer 1 suggestion to solve.
One issue i think really needs solving is the freshman curfew. I havent had a curfew since i was able to drive so i think that it is a huge problem that i have a curfew when i'm in college and am supposed to be out having fun, granted i'm in a new area and adjusting to a new environment so i dont need to be out all night but thats an adjustment i'm supposed to be allowed to make on my own. i dont need a school i'm paying my money to attend to tell me when i can and cant go out. I mean we are all supposed to be young adults, so treat us as such. To solve the problem LOSE the curfew, thats the only solution i see fitting, We already cant have visitatioin after a certain time and cant get in the kitchen after a certain time either So the least that can be done is let us do what we want
1.Describe a problem or an issue you've had since being at Dillard, how did critical thinking help you find a solution?
ReplyDeleteTHe biggest problem I have is trying to find a way to study without getting extremely bored and falling asleep. I came up with a plan to listen to music and study at the same time.
2.Post an issue that needs solving, use critical thinking to offer 1 suggestion to solve.
It is extremely hard to find quaters on campus when we need to wash.
- To solve this we need free washing and drying services or at least a change machine somewhere (that works)
The only problem i have is trying to figure out what i really want to do. I have to use critical thinking to decide on a solid career choice.
ReplyDelete2. a problem that really needs to be solved is the distributing of academic advisers. Maybe i should take it upon myself and find someone to talk to.
1. the one problem that i have is a person of a male figure not being able to go up stairs...i don't think its fair because you have friends that you may want to hang out with and have intimate discussion about relationship problems, family issues, or just talk about what happen throughout the day...and some cases we might just want to have study session and we don't have to just be subject to one area of William...i really haven't found a solution yet...
ReplyDelete2. the same issue as a # 1.
1.So far I haven’t really had any problems at Dillard but keeping up my work. I have to be in a quiet environment and do it all at once. Besides registration of course.
ReplyDelete2.Issue that I need to be solved is that I need to know why my floor mates are just so trifling and leave and stack up all that trash on top of trash in the kitchen after my roommate and I tried and accomplished getting different accommodations on my floor. So girl do me a favor and keep it clean. Suggestion—bring your trash to the dumpster located right behind Kearny
An issue I've had since I have been at Dillard is not having a consistent Alarm Clock. I came to Dillard with an alarm clock that I have no clue how to program so i gave it away. Thank God that my mother bout me a wireless one but the only problem ia that it usess batteries and the batteries die out every week! Plus I dropped it so I cant tell the time. I have worked on that issue by praying to wake up on time and training my body to wake up at a certain time period. It is risky but it has worked for me so far this year.
ReplyDelete2. An issue that needs solving is quarter issue. We have to wash clothes as students and for the students similar to myslef who live over 6 hours away we must pay to wash our clothes at school. There is no quarter machine so the run around to find quaters is pretty difficult.
1. One issue that I've with attending Dillard is that everything is so unorganized. I understand that we are african american but we don't always have to live up to our stereotypes. For example last weekend we were notified of a shuttle that would take us to Walmart at 10am. The shuttle never showed up and none of the staff knew anything about it. Therefore, we were inconveineced by waking up at 10am on a saturday.
ReplyDelete2. One issue that needs to be addressed is the quarter issues. It is so difficult to find quarters on campus. The change machine in kearny doesnt work and rosenwald cannot always supply quarters for us to wash. I think the change machine should be fixed and possibly but somewhere on campus where everyone is able to have access to it.
Since I've been at Dillard, there have been just a few problems : breakfast ends too early, dinner is too early, and curfew is too early. As i said, just a few (early) problems. I believe these problems can be fixed if they were brought to someone of authority in the correct way.
ReplyDeleteThe worst problem I have had at Dillard was getting my last named corrected in the system, I had to use to different names to get on differnt stuff on the computer, and for blackboard and I found out I had two student ID numbers.I found a solution by goind talk to the different departments and seeing how they had my name spelled in thier computer, after I found out it was att that had my name spelled incorrectly I had them to correct it and help me get into blackboard.
ReplyDelete2. One issue that needs solving is that I still have to student ID numbers. What I will do to solve this issue is go back and talk to att and let them know the problem at hand.
1)Since being at Dillard University, I have had problems with financial aid. I have recieved about three different answers when it comes to my account balances. I also was told by one person that I should be recieving a refund check, but another person said that I owed money. I had to use critical thinking in this sitution by asking more questions and finding out more answers on my own.
ReplyDelete2) The that still needs solving is that, financial aid is saying that I owe money. In order to solve this problem, I will have to check and make sure that all the fundings that I recieved for tution have been posted on my account.

1. So far my problems at Dillard have been the price for parking. I dont understand why parking is $100 and there is never where to park!
ReplyDelete2. Somehow Dillard needs to consturct a parking garage or SOMETHING, because if we are going to pay $100 to park there should be spots to park.
I agree with jerunise walker on the parking decal. Why is it so high and Dillard doesn't have parking spot to park. Parking should be free because this is non sense.

ReplyDelete1. One of my problems at Dillard was understanding that it is different from high school and the teachers here will not constantly keep reminding you about upcoming due dates on assignments, it is your resposibility to remember. So I got a planner where I write everything down and look at it numerous time a day to keep myself in the know about what I have to do.
2. One issue that I am still having is reading for class. Some teachers assign multiple chapters at a time to read for class and I get very bored with reading. One way I think I could improve on that is by not trying to read everything at once and having small time periods where I read and take a break then come back and read some more.
1. An issue that i had at dillard a few weeks ago included some females that were speaking to me in a very rude wsay that i do not usually tolerate. My critical thinking skills helped me think about all the sacrifices i had made to come here and how hitting them would put all of my accomplishments in jeapordy. I walked away.
ReplyDelete2. An issue that needs solving is the fact that i have alot of work to do by the end of the week. I will not socialize today, instead i will stay in my room and do my work.
The only problem I had was getting my money to post on my account. The critical thinking skill that I use was communication. I kept going back and forward to Rosenwald to communicate with my financial aid advisor.
ReplyDeleteAn issue that needs solving is communicating more with my students. Sometimes we don't have a clue about everything until we over hear someone say it.
