Discussion Questions

1. John H. Johnson Founder/Owner of Ebony and Jet Magazine said this about Success... "If you can somehow think and dream of success in small steps, every time you make a step, every time you accomplish a small goal, it gives you confidence to go on from there" Reflect on your own experiences, how can you relate this quote to your own pursuit of success? Give examples of small steps you have made that have given you confidence to pursue a larger dream of success.

    1. I am doing my best as a Theatre major. I have been in plays since my tenth grade year in high school. "Dreamgirls" was my first time in a production on television. I got a little fame for that; then i just recently finished doing a play called "Ain't Misbehavin'" at the end of my senior year in high school. It was a blast and everyone loved it. And now i am taking a trip with the rest of the cast and crew to do the same play for the French festival in Paris next year. I am pretty excited, and it goes to show you that a small step can lead to bigger places. I never thought i would muster up enough courage to be in performance but acting and singing together is a winning combination for me. I hope to be the best at what i go into, whatever it may be( performer/entertainer).

  2. One of my main goals in life was to go to college. In order to get to here I had to take small steps such as finishin elementary, middle and high school. Another example is how when I was younger, I was a problem child but I got involved in sports and church to stay out of the streets.

I can relate to this qoute because I have always had dreams of success since I was at a young age. My most important goal is to become a pediatric nurse. I have made small steps to this dream by attending summer nuring programs and activities and starting off in college. I know there is a long way to go but if I continue making small steps I know I will eventually make it!

  4. 1. My main steps are simple; just keep hustling along with your heart leading you in the right direction. It doesn't matter what major, but if it's for you go for it and don't quick unless your eyes shut for life. I just keep studying until I get things right and use time management to full capicty.

I agree with the three whom did do sixteen because they are hustling in what they believe in.

  5. 1. I have been interested in anatomy since i can remeber. I hate to read, but i wouldnt mind reading anything about the human body. No matter what i will become a RN and further my education from their. I talk to registered nurses and nursing advisors often. I hear people say that nursing is a very hard major, but i am determined to get the job done. Knowing that alot of people did make it to the end with hard work and dedication boost my confidence.

  8. I agree with all of my collegueas above...with there interpretation of this quote

    BUT...I SEE IT AS

John H. Johnson Founder/Owner of Ebony and Jet Magazine said this about Success... "If you can somehow think and dream of success in small steps, every time you make a step, every time you accomplish a small goal, it gives you confidence to go on from there"

When I first started thinking of a better future, I saw the whole picture and as time went on, i had to break that picture down and figure out how I would get to the bigger picture. So every little goal i accomplish that ive diminished into smaller accomplishments, im a step closer to a successful future...that is why i go by my motto "keep thy eyes on the prize, and prevail and survive to the best of my abilities

I feel that is true because when you do something great it effects you learn term. It makes you to want for and more to accomplish these goals. dedication and focus all these are things you need to have in order to be successful

  11. My steps started with trying to get rid of my bad attitude because it won't get me anywhere. I made progress over the years. As far as education, the small steps start with putting forth effort in school. I've been going to the writing center to get help with my writing. I also have been meeting with my Sociology teacher to discuss the readings. I think I made much progess and I still have many steps to take in gaining success.
