1. After reflecting on my speech to the new freshmen and retaining the information from the chapter, my speech would focus more on the academic side of things. I would talk less about how to get accustomed to the college environment and more about the importance of being able precisely complete academic tasks.
ReplyDelete2. From my readings, it is clear that the author believes that interpersonal communication is very important. I agree completely. The book talked about how public speaking is the biggest fear of a lot of people, but being able to do it will yield a greater rate of success. The book talked about being able to write and present to people effectively and I agree that that is very important also.
1.After reflecting on my speech to the new freshman class and from the information in the chapter. In my speech I would ficus more on the research and writing techniques. We need to use the resources that are available to us.
ReplyDelete2.I agree with the author. The author believes that people should be able to have interpersonal communication. You should be able to communicate well and to have a one-on-one with a person that is able to understand what you are saying.
1) Reviewing the chapter and reflecting on my speech to a new freshman, I realized my speech should focus more on the ability for one to write and speak with confidence.
ReplyDelete2) Within the text it is made obvious that the author believes that interpersonal communication is very important, and I strongly agree. We should all be able to understand and communicate information and different perspectives.

ReplyDeleteAfter reading the chapter I would speak about the available resource that students should use to stay on top academically. I feel that talking about getting comfortable with new environment is less important. Freshman need to understand that this isn't high school anymore and academics are extremely important.
I defenitely agree with the author. He beilieves that interpersonal communication is important. You should be able to communicate by writing and speaking effectively. It is very important that you understand what is being addressed and others personal view points. You need to know what is going on.
1. After Reveiwing the chapter i would speak on what to do and not to do in your first year of college. I will also speak on how easy it is to fall behind but how hard it is to catch up.
ReplyDelete2. I agree with the authour that it is importnat to have interpersonal communtication how public speaking is very important and effective
Bianca: I like how you mentioned that it is important to be able to talk to people with perspectives different from yours. That is so very important
ReplyDeleteJerinise: I know first hand how difficult it can be to catch up once you have fallen behind.
Chilla: I agree. People definitely need to try to improve their writing techniques once they set foot on a college campus. That really matters.
@Lauren: Informing new freshmen about academic things is always a great idea.
ReplyDelete@Jerinise: I'm more then sure everyone will agree that it is extremely easy to fall behind and extremely difficult to catch up.
@Doreall: I agree it's important to understand the things being addressed.
In my speech, I feel I could change the prospective of the entire speech. Now that i've experienced a piece of the college life, I could tell things to do and not to do, and how to improve things needing to be improved.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with the author because you should want to communicate to people with intellegence, and some solid foundation that you actually know what your talking about. It's like being versitile, talking to your friends one way, but also being able to talk intellegently and profoundly with professors and highly educated people.
I felt my speech was okay, but if given the chance to go back I would add more vivid and expressive word to better get my point across.
ReplyDeletei agree whole-heartedly with Mikia and Chillia, because alot of our peers don't understand that there is a time and place for eveything. College is a place of fun, but it is a place of learning and our conversations should reflect that such is occuring. the is an obvious lack of stimulating conversation amongst our constituents.
1. Reflect on your speech to the new freshmen, from week 8. Tell how your speech would have been different with the information from this chapter.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the chapter I would speak more about the available resources that students should use to stay ahead academically. I would also focus more on the reading and writing part. I agree with the author. He believes that interpersonal communication is important. You should be able to communicate by writing and speaking effectively. You should be able to have one-on-ones where the other person should be able to understand and comprehend what you are saying.
1. The information that I read from this chapter that would've made my speech different would be research and writing techniques. I would explain to them that whether you're taking English or not, writing is a very important asset in helping to sharpen you thinking and communication skills. I would also enforce the importance of improving their skills, instead of stressing over getting a good grade. I would also include how important it is to check out and use the resources in the school library.

Chillia,
ReplyDeletei agree with you 100%. communication is important, and if you can't do that effectivly, then there is a problem.
Bridget D Sisney said... how vivid would you be, what exactly what you say or do differently?
jerinise.walker...what should you do and not do your first year in college?
Cherelle Palmer
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't change my speech. I think that we should take a more vivid approach to the speech. We are going to be repeating the same things we were told. I think we should relate to them differently.
The author believes interpersonal communication will give you an edge over others. I agree with the author's perspective. It's important to understand what you say. How you say certain things can determine how well you know your stuff.
Cherelle Palmer
ReplyDeleteTo: everyone
In my opinion holding an intelligent conversation can reflect the person but doesn't necessarily mean that the person is intelligent. It shouldn't be about having an important conversation. THat situation boils down to how we judge people. Just because someone talks as if they are smart doesn't mean they are smart. Also, why hold an intelligent conversation if the person you are talking to can't relate to anything you are saying. I juss think being real with everything you say and meaning what you say, and most importantly, thinking about what you say before you say it makes a big differemce.
1. After reading the chapter i would have gave more information than before. Because adjust to the school plays a major role in how successful someone become in a new enviornment. And yes, academics is very important in college. Different learning methods and study habits are ways to eliminate cramming is very vital to have a healthy balanced college life. But, i don't think i would have changed much in my speech.
ReplyDelete2. Interpersonal communication is usually defined by communication scholars in numerous ways, usually describing participants who are dependent upon one another and have a shared history. Communication channels, the conceptualization of mediums that carry messages from sender to receiver, take two distinct forms: direct and indirect.
I agree with the author because communication is a big part of todays society. And even though the communication has decreased because of texting, e-mails, and etc. You should always have proper communication skills.

ReplyDeleteThis chapter provided a lot of step-by-step information to help organize speeches and to help them flow. My speech would have been easier to understand and I would have been better able to express my ideas if I had knew about the step-by-step process before I wrote my speech.
2.From your readings what does the author believe about interpersonal communication? How much do you agree or disagree?
The author believes that interpersonal communication is very important. I agree with the author. Learning to communicate well is a necessary skill that will help me to be successful and many things inside and outside of my college experience. Oral communication with other people is extremely important because because it helps you with public speaking which is something that a lot of people have problems with.
@ Lauren Lemonious
I agree with you in that I should have added more information about academics to my speech as well. I focused more on the common daily life issues that we face as college students.
@ Garion Eave
Not all communication has been reduced by texting annd email but mainly it is oral communication. The lessening of oral communication and interaction between people is harmful because we have less experience in speaking effectively because we don't get enough pratice. As a result, some college students have issues with speaking publicly.
@ Alannia
I know that I have a serious FEAR of public speaking and now I see that I am not alone. I believe our lack of oral communication skills is the cause of that.

1.My speech would have foused on how college is than what is said about it. How it really is compared to what you hear thorugh teachers, students, and your family. My subject would be on how to study in college, take test, and what to do on your down time.

Reflect on your speech to the new freshmen, from week 8. Tell how your speech would have been different with the information from this chapter.
ReplyDeleteAfter reviewing my week 8 speech to the new freshmen I would spotlight the conversation on the dire need to stay focused. There many distractions that occur in college. Parties, social events, dating, sleeping, and stressing just to name a few. I think that these distractions are not bad, they are a part of the college life, but freshmen must consume everything in moderation. Until their grades are completely under their belt and where they need to be at to be successful, then they must relax and remember why they are here, to get an education.
From your readings what does the author believe about interpersonal communication? How much do you agree or disagree?
Being that I am a communications major I feel that communications is one of the biggest tools and aspects of life that can create success. Communication involves speaking and writing properly but also means that one knows how to get their point across in explaining or describing something. Speaking publicly is an extremely difficult task, but if done with confidence you can be the talk of the town, which can really boost self esteem.

2. From your readings what does the author believe about interpersonal communication? How much do you agree or disagree?
I strongly agree with the author in the sense that public speaking is hard for many people. At one point in time I would miss class so that I wouldnt have to speak in class, but now a day I try to remember that the information that I am delivering can help someone and that’s what matters most to me.
I concur with the majority I strongly agree with you all made some good points about interpersonal communication whether it is connecting with the audience or how communication can take you a long way. 1) My speech would have been different because I would find a topic sentence or main idea in a paragraph, section or chapter is not hard but it does take concentration and a degree of analytical skills. To the new freshman I would say, "You are now on your own so be an adult". I would make sure the freshman know that its time to become an adult.
ReplyDelete2) I agree with the authors opinion in interpersonal communication. The author examines how many people are involved, how physically close they are to one another, how many sensory channels are used, and the feedback provided.
