1.) One of the most beneficial academic skills that i have been successful with is asking several questions in class. Many times students are bashful and in some cases intimitated by the thought of asking questions becase theyu don't want to seem "dumb." Me on the other hand, i ask questions in class on a regular basis for clarity and this has proven to do me great justice.
ReplyDelete2.)As finals are rapidly approaching, i am preparing myself by completing all assignments on time and definitley attending class, as i have been doing since the beginning of the semester. In addition i am making an extra effort to set aside more review time. There is not much that i'm doing differently since mid-term. im sure this will lead to great grades at finals!
1. Using my faculty fellow and talking to my professors had the most impact on my success
ReplyDelete2.I will seek help even if I believe I can do it on my own. Also, I won't study last minute.

2. Finals are coming up and anything that I need assistance with, I am asking for help. I am avoiding craming and much stress.
1.)On my success, the most essential academic skill would have to be me learning to take extremly benefical notes. I have learn that you do not have to write everything down. Taking notes properly can really help you study. By writing down the things you dont quite understand, you can go back to that certain thing. Taking notes this semester was also very helpful in improving my grades and study skills.
ReplyDelete2.) In preparing for final exams, i am definitely getting my priorities together. I am separating my personal life from my college life, which is really helpful with my study habits. Basically I am studying more and partying less.
@ Aeryka Harvey--> I really need to avoid cramming and stress also. I totally agree girl.
ReplyDelete1. The academic skills that have impacted my success the greatest are making sure my professors not only know who I am but also understand that I am a hard worker and I try by best, and reading & studying.
ReplyDelete2. In preparation for final exams I am doing what I have been doing the entire semester. I am just going to continue to study the material and think of it as any other exam that just has a special name attached to it.
Ekebnta: I agree with you in that asking questions is fundamentally important in trying to attain success.
Raina: I also agree with you. Talking to professors help.
Felisha: I think taking good notes is very important also. Writing things down has always helped me to retain information better than anything else.
1.) A very usful and beneficial academic skill that has impacted my success would be listening to directions and understanding the material. These reason being that just by doing so eassys, homework, have a tendicy to flow smoother and one has some guideline as to how the teacher wants the certian assignment to go.
ReplyDelete2) Things I'm doing to prepare for the Final Exam is getting focused early, not procrastinating, organizing my material and being more attentive in class. I've not changed alot of old peperations.
1.) The most essential academic skill to me is getting help. Sometimes I get so caught up in everything else that I forget about the classes that I "think" I know and end up falling behind. I advise everyone to ask questions and get your lesson.
ReplyDelete2.)Honestly I havent started preparing for finals yet I aint even gonna lie. Like for English we are writing essays, Biology I havent seen my teacher in weeks so I really dnt know. But I am going to not cram :) Hopefully. Ima do better next semester though seriously.
****Felisha true ima get my priorities together too> This semester was overwhelming I thought I could do the same thing from Highschool as far as studying goes.
****Raymond... yes honey procastination will be the death of me sad to say.
****Lauren.... I wish I could say the same but Ima try that next semester. :)

ReplyDelete1. Some essential academic skills that I've learned was to see my academic advisor regularly because she can help me with more than just making a schedule. The other skill I've learned was time management.
2.To prepare for final exams I am collecting all my notes and previous test together to study. After midterms I learned that i must start to get prepared for exams at least a week before.
.The essential academic skills that have made the most impact on my success taking good notes and completing assignment is a suffienct amout of time.
ReplyDelete2.I am satisfied with my grades from midterms so I am not doing anything much different except that I am going to start studying earlier this time.

2.What preparations are you making to prepare for Final Exams? Are there things you are doing differently from midterm?
I have honestly done nothing to prepare for my final exams but turn in my assignments for class on time... I feel that i prepared fairly well for mid-terms and plan to do the same for finals.
Alex: i completely agree with your preparations for finals because they are similar to mine. I think we both need to get our lives together since finals are rearing near!
Ray: listening is a very effective skill but is that really considered an academic skill? nice response though.
Angell: i agree with the week rule that way i don't feel as though i am behind in my preparations for finals.

ReplyDelete1. I would say my writing skill is my best academic skill because it allows me to decipher important information and create beneficial notes that will help me to better understand a subject.
2. I am going to over study for my weaker subject which is Math. I am only required to take math one semester therefore I would not like to repeat it.I am also going to meet with many different study groups because one group may know something that another doesn't.
One of the most beneficial academic skills that have made the most impact on my success would be my ability to take good notes in class. You shouldn’t be afraid to ask questions in class because it will definitely benefit you in the end.
ReplyDeleteFinals are approaching, therefore I’m completing and turning in all of my work on time. I will also seek help for my peers, the writing center and other resources that will help benefit my academic success.
1. I must say that my writing skills have improved. The writing center is very helpful. It has helped me to earn the grade that I have in my english class.
ReplyDelete2. Finals are very important because I have to score above average on all of them so i would not have poor grades. I did not study as much as I should have for midterms. I have started preparing for finals, studying material that I will be tested on. I am completing all assignments that have to be turned in b/c it is very easily to fall off. I am studying for my weaker subject the most which is math. I plan to stay organized, I have made a schedule.
1.What Essential Academic skills have made the most impact on your success? Share those skills.
ReplyDeleteThere are three Essential Academic Skills that have made the most impact on my success. Those skills are:
1. READING ANALYTICALLY
2. WRITING CRITICALLY
3. SPEAKING AND PRESENTING EFFECTIVELY
2.What preparations are you making to prepare for Final Exams? Are there things you are doing differently from midterm?
For midterms, I was just letting things flow and praying that I did well. When I got my grades back I was a little disappointed because I knew that I could definitely do better. I realized that midterm grades were from the beginning of my college career and I was not too familiar with my professors and the way of life in college. Now I am more comfortable in my new surroudings and I am more comfortable with my professors. I know their teaching methods and I know what they expect from me. My new findings will definitely help me to better prepare for my finals. I am spending more time studying and I have organized methods of study for each of my classes because each class is structured differently.
@ Ekebnta Okorn
In high school I was often afraid of asking questions in class because of my fear of being criticized by my peers. Now I ask questions all the time because I know that it will only help me out in the end. I don't worry about what my peers have to say because some of them may have the same questions I have and they are just afraid to ask.
@ Kimyana Teno
Good note taking skills are a very important because your note taking skills can play a strong role in whether you pass or fail a class. good notes will help you to thoroughly prepare for exams. That is why attendance in class is so important; you should be in class to get the notes because they will never hurt you, but only help you.
@ Erica Peters
Turning in your work on time is VERY IMPORTANT! Late assignments may cause you to lose detrimental points to your grade. Plus, when you turn in assignments you early you feel relaxed because you don't have to spend late nights cramming.
1. The essential academic skills that have made an impact on my success thus far have been reading my notes daily, and seeking outside help when needed.
ReplyDelete2. To prepare for finals, I plan to use the same tactic I used for midterms, which was very beneficial. I have already started studying and looking over old material. If there is a review session, I will be in attendance to show that I care and am putting forth effort.
@Raymond
Your preparation for finals seems like a strong plan, if you put it in action, Im sure you'll do fine.
@Doreall
I'm glad that your midterm grades influenced you to do better, instead of discouraging you. Good Luck on your finals
1) One Essential Academic skill that has made an important impact on my success has been Note Taking,it has helped me with test taking and more, I think it's the best Academic skill period.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with @ Ekebnta Okorn asking questions is also important for your classes when you don't understand something.
2)When preparing for final exams I have been taking notes and I'm studying all my courses materials given too me as well. One thing I'm doing differently since my midterms is searching for more information online if I don't understand a subject it has really helped me.
1. Skills that have helped me have been really a combination of the things everyone has said thus far. I have found it helpful to read the book or handout first then go back and take notes from that...and any questions i have i ask once with the professor and i also take notes while participating in the class's discussion.
ReplyDelete2. In order to prepare for my finals, i am going back all the way to the beginning and am reviewing my notes...and also I'm looking back at past handouts, quizzes, as well as any exam questions. i also am going back to see the tutors to just make sure I'm on top of game, so ther wont be any surprises come test day.

1. the academic skill that in my opinion had the most impact on my success is organization. if i was not as organized as i am now, it would be hard for me to study.
2. The only thing that i am doing differently from midterms is that i am going to study ahead of time instead of studying the night before.

ReplyDelete#1)The academic skills that have significantly impacted my success so far here at Dillard University are my writing skills. It is the single most important skill to succeed in college. In almost every course we will take, writing will be implemented and mandatory in it. Dr. Mell has been an important resource in pushing my writing skills to it's full potential. I vehemently urge all of you who need assistance in you writing skills, to consider your professors' feedback and incorporate it into your writing. Results will show their faces!
#2)I am preparing for the final exams the same way I prepared for Midterms: look over notes, quiz myself and continue to be an active participant in class. I'm just going to study a little bit harder for my Geography Final, because that's the hardest class that I have right now. His tests are so unpredictable.......!
1.) A skill that has benefited me in class would have to be taking notes. By this i take the information given to me and i put it into something i understand. this way when the test, i know what im talkin about.
ReplyDelete2)I wouldn't say that i am doing something different from studying lke i did for midterms. It helped and my grades were pleasing. Taking notes and reviewing works for me.
The most essential academic skills that have made the most impact on my succes is reading the assigned chapter and talking to my professor.
ReplyDeleteI havent started preparing for final exams yet but I will start reading my chapters again and look at my notes.
@ Jasmine:You really need to start preparing for finals.
@ Bridget: I agree with you about preparing for finals
@Doreall: I need to do the same thing.
1. What Essential Academic skills have made the most impact on your success? Share those skills.
ReplyDelete2. What preparations are you making to prepare for Final Exams? Are there things you are doing differently from midterm?
One of the most beneficial, academic skills that I have been successful with is, receiving help. I use to be lazy and didn’t really care much to get help from a professor who knows what they are doing. Another student can’t help me because they get all off task and we both start doing other things. Getting help has done me justice; I learn and get questions answered on top of getting extra credit points for going to tutoring often. It’s made life a bit easier when you can understand and know what you are doing.
I haven’t been preparing for midterms just yet. At this point I feel like I know everything up to this point. When I start preparing I’ll be attending many more tutoring services. I’ll practice more by myself and test myself. There are many different things that I’m doing now that I didn’t do for midterms. I have been attending a lot of tutoring sessions. I’ve also be getting lots of rest.

@Dominique Bryant: So glad to hear that your organized. Organization is key.
ReplyDelete@Bridget D Sisney: what are the "THUS FAR" things my dear?
@Ekebnta Okorn: always ask questions. NEVER be timid as to ask questions. The ones that dont ask are the ones who will have problems later on in their college experience
1. I talk to my professor, and ask them to explain something when i don't understand.
ReplyDelete2. I'm studying the same way I did for midterms. I read over my notes and my book.
Kimyana: Its good to use the resources.
ReplyDeleteDominique Bryant: You should start organizing now while u still have
Lauren Lemonious: Thats good I always visit my professors atleast once week.
1. The most helpful skill i have is asking questions in class when I dont understand something. I used to not talk in class and now all I do is talk but for the most part it is for trying to understand something.
ReplyDelete2. I will do the exact same thing I did for midterms because I did very good.
Dominique- How much in advance will you study?
Aeryka- I agree. Cramming does not work for me either.
1.Studing, Using the notes and asking questions.
ReplyDelete2.I'm going to change my studying times and methods like getting a study partner, are getting a upper classmen.
1) Throughout the semester the academic skills that have proven to have the most impact on me are: (1) taking detailed notes and reviewing them on a daily basis. (2) Reading and understanding the materials for each of my classes. (3) Last, but certainly not least I seek help when I’m not sure of things.
ReplyDelete2) As finals are approaching I am studying information and making appointments with my professors to be certain I am successful passing the course. The only difference between mid-term and finals is that at mid-term I wasn't making very much of an effort to visit with my professors.
@ Ekebnta: You’re so right; in fear of sounding uneducated many students do not ask questions. In the long run they will regret it.
@ Felisha: Taking great notes is always helpful.
@Raymod: I totally agree with you. Listening to instructions and understanding the materials ensures success.

ReplyDelete@ Bridget D Sisney... I will also go over my quizzes an old test. Most of the time, teachers reuse problems.
@Bianca Young.. Maybe making apintment with my teachers is a good idea. They may give extra points on the final
@Doreall Jupiter... I didn't study for midterms and I could have done much better. I plan on studying and making a greater effort for finals
1. One of the skills that have made the most impact to my success would be dedication, studying and becoming more involved.

studying how you did for midterms can be reflective on your final exam grade.
one of the academic skills that have made the most impact on my sucess would be communicating with my instructors.
ReplyDeleteto prepare for finals, i am spending extra time going over my notes and studying the material.
1) The skill that have impacted me to reach for success is asking questions and meeting with my teachers , so that i know that iam on the right path and if not , what can i do .

1.Something that had a big impact on my life would be My writing class because it hepled me to speak better and it also helped me to wright a whole lot better.
ReplyDelete2.For finals I just want ot complete un finished work and study really hard
@ Shi'nece Cockheran : I believe you are right , i feel the same . many students can benefit from going to visit your instuctor . It helps to see what he/she can do to better thir grade in that class .

1.Some Essential Academic skills that have made the most impact on my success is the time I take out to talk to my advisor and some of the help I get from my peers.
ReplyDelete2.I am going to see what my grades are in all of my classes before the finals to help me determine how hard I need to study and what I need to make in order to have A's and B's.
shi'nece cockheran
ReplyDeleteI am also going to spend some extra long hours studying over my notes and study materials but I am going to take breaks in between each study session.
1. One of my best academic skills is being able to recollect the notes I write and study them thoroughly. Once test time comes I usually have no problem answering any questions and I do well on all of my tests.
ReplyDelete2. I haven't done any preparing for my final because I treat all of my exams like finals. The point isn't to learn something for a particular test and then forget it later on in life. It is to help you throughout life and act as building blocks for later subjects. I study old material just as much as I study new material so that when I get the final the only thing I can complain about is the the things I haven't learned not the things that we learned the first 2 weeks of school.
To Everyone,
ReplyDeleteIs talking to your advisor really an academic skill? I never knew that.
To Craishan,
You know its not really good to study long hours but to study in short bursts. its kind of like eating. everyone thinks you should eat 3 big meals when you should really eat 5 or 6 smaller meals. dat was a little fun fact for the day.
To Lyniece,
Writing is very important but make sure you dont forget your other skills such as analytical and critical thinking. Keep those in mind.
This has been another Yung Pharoh post remember im bout dat drama wuzzam
1.What Essential Academic skills have made the most impact on your success? Share those skills.
ReplyDeleteI think that one of the biggest academic skills that have made the most impact in success thus far is continuing to strive for success. I think that studying and reading material is key in order to be a good student.

1.What Essential Academic skills have made the most impact on your success? Share those skills.
ReplyDelete2.What preparations are you making to prepare for Final Exams? Are there things you are doing differently from midterm?
1) Some essential Academic skills that have made the most impact on my success are are my ability to write well and my ability to memorize. So far at Dillard I have struggled in some classes but in some I have defanately excelled. In African World Studies I made an A on my midterm and in the first half of the class. I created my own flash cards and I memorized enough to do the best at a test that I have ever done. In English I also have made B plusses on every essay that I have turned in. There is still a possibility for me to make an A.
2) TO prepare for Final Exams I have begun t catch up on all work in every single class including DU. I want to be completely ahead of the game so I can go into my finals with no worries just ready to study. I don't want any regrets at all I will do the best I possibly can in each and every class.
1. One of the many things that I have learned to make the most impact on my success is time-management. Back home I was the Queen of organization and time-management but when I came to college my brain went crazy. Now I truly regret it. Some may think time-management is a waste of time because you could never manage your every minute but I do believe that having a set schedule really helps you to stay focused and concentrate on that particular task at hand and at that certain time. Although I have waited too long these fall in the spring I plan to come back ready to go and in full recovery. I will be consistent in my time-management and make sure I stay organized throughout the whole semester with planners, binder’s notebooks, and whatever other tools I will need in order to stay on top of my work and not fall behind like I have been.
ReplyDelete2. For finals I have been making sure to meet with all my teachers to make sure my grades are on point. I get sort of nervous when it is time for a final exam because of the pressure that it could either make or break my grade especially in the classes that I am not doing too well in. I have come to learn that I have not been on top of my “A” game this semester but I know next semester will be better. I am going to actually study because during midterms I just chanced it and hoped I remember my work, but I am going to be in those study groups and make sure I meet with my peers to make sure I excel when the final comes.
1. One of my best academic skills is taking great notes. It is always easy for me to look back in my notes when a test is coming up. It always makes it easier for me to study for a test.
ReplyDelete2. For finals i plan to study harder than usual and make sure all of my study guides and notes are completed so that i can begin to study ahead of time with no problems.
1.One of the most beneficial academic skills that i have been successful is making use of my time and effort towards my schoolwork. I plan my homework, projects, papers, and any other extra work to accomplish my work. I always plan by time on each hour, minute, and second, so I wouldn't waste time.
ReplyDelete2.My preparations for the finals are simple, just study and more studying until I get it all in my head to make an A.
I agree with everybody because we all have our own opinions and different ways of doing things.
ReplyDelete1.I think that the skills that have had the most impact on my success would be my note taking, i take very good notes and when its time to study i always have what i need to know infront of me before i even open the book.
ReplyDelete2.I haven't really started making any preparations, i have a plan of action, but i have yet to set in affect, so it really isnt doing me much good now. And i plan to actually study for my finals, or at least do a good review of the material that i didnt do so well on.
One of my best acadimic skills is completing big task like projects and major assignments i enjoy the pressure! some how when its minor assignments that mean a whole lot i tend to forget and that is my biggest acadminc down fall.
ReplyDelete2.I have tried to talk to my proffesors so that i can recive help to better myself in time for finals.
1.What Essential Academic skills have made the most impact on your success? Share those skills.
ReplyDeleteStudying and doing my homework before the last minute so that I can have more time to study.
2.What preparations are you making to prepare for Final Exams? Are there things you are doing differently from midterm?
I have started studying ahead of time. For mid term i waited till last minute to study and that did not work so well so I've started to study now so I won't feel overwhelmed.
Jerinise Walker,
ReplyDeleteI never met anyone that liked the pressure of big tasks or projects.
Ellissa,
I haven't been on my "A" game either and my grades are not as good as they could be.
Andrew Tadros,
I like your note taking skills.
1)One of the most essiential academic skills i have used is studying ahead of time and taking advantage of tutoring when needed.
ReplyDelete2)I'am making it mandatory to study ahead of time for the classes that are giving me problems.

ReplyDelete1. Academic skills which have made the most impact on my success is really the way I retain and analyze information.
2. Preparations I am making for the final exams are study sessions, going to see a math tutor for sure, sleeping, trying not to stress out major and of course study to the max.
To Markia
I know right and then there is so much more pressure now because you can't make these grades up.
To Zachary Davis
That's what I'm talking about...confidence.
To Tequelia
Seeing your advisor often really helps you?
1. How i receive and understand information is one of the key points in my success.
ReplyDelete2. I am doing abosolutely nothing different rom midterms. Midterm grades for me were prety good so i am sticking with the same methods. I am preparing for finals by getting the most possible sleep i can get and going through all my notes taken before and after midterms.
The most essential academic skill that has had an impact on my success is note-taking. I believe that note-taking can be the key to anyone's success because as long as your going over your notes and comprehending the material you will be successful in school.
ReplyDeleteThings I am doing different for finals that I didn't so for midterms is i'm starting to study earlier so I can feel more secure with the material that i think will be on them.
One thing that I have been doing to have academic success is attending tutoring sessions. The tutoring session has helped my studying skills improve.
ReplyDeleteTo make it through finals, me and my friends are have a study session on Bio and Math. Those are our toughest sudjects.
1) the most essential skill that has impacted my academic life is the ability to read and write. some people arent even able to do so and i personally feel like reading is one of the keys to life in this day and age.
ReplyDelete2) For my final exams i am trying to go to tutoring as often as possible to ensure and go over my knowlege with a teacher. During midterms i definately didnt go to tutoring. I told myself i would, but fell short.
allania- great on talking to teachers, i need to work on that
chardai- we're both gonna be studying everyday before finals
bianca- she says also she's gonna visit teachers before finals. me too
one of the biggest academic skills i learned was tutoring. tutoring helped me go from an f to an A. the preperations i made for finals were to studying for two hours at home and getting tutored everyday
ReplyDeletei agree with malerie when you take good notes you will have a good grade but when you have bad notes you will most likely have a bad grade
ReplyDelete1. The most successful skills for me has been asking questions in class. It is helping me to further understand the lesson.
ReplyDelete2. I am trying to take the advice of my teachers to pass my finals and I am also studying in groups so I can learn from others.

Destini: Tutoring is very helpful. It is a way to get understanding and ensure that you are maintaing your desired grade.

ReplyDelete1. The most powerful concept that I have learned is constantly staying in contact with my professors, and using my resources such as tutoring for clarity of the material that I did not grasp in class.
2.Finals Exams are approaching quickly encouraging me to find ways to be successful. The second half of the semester,i decided to buckle down a little harder letting all of the information soak in,;so, when finals approached I would not have to cram. I have also been to several tutoring sessions to assist me during the final exams. Luckily, some teachers give bonous points for attending tutoring. Also, I have taken the liberty to ask my peers questions that gained an understanding of the subject.

ReplyDelete1.I think my professors because they give me the help that i need in order to pass their class.
2.I have been studying little by little. It is start to take its toll with the stressing and the headaches lol.
1. What i have found since i've been here is to listen and to understand what the professor is trying to say. And if he or she haven't grasp the concept then they should ask questions.
ReplyDelete2. i am getting a lot of rest, studying when i can since i have choir practice everyday, going over old notes, and having study groups their always benefical. Not
that much difference from mid-terms
1. One beneficial method I used that made the largest impact on my grades is my building a rapport and connection with my instructors.

ReplyDelete1. I must say that my writing skills have improved. The writing center is very helpful. It has helped me to earn the grade that I have in my english class.
