1.The stereotypes that I have been exposed to are the fact that all females are very sexully active. I believe that people think this because of the girls that are around them and what they are raised to think.
ReplyDelete2.My idea of culture is where I come from,my wa of life. The componets of my culture that I'm proud of is that were I come from you learn how to take care of your self when you are like 14. The culture componets that I'm least proud of is that were I'm from we are fighters and found of violence.
1) THe stereotypes I have been exposed to are the stereotypes that all black males steal, smoke weed, and are not intelligent. This hurts me to know when I know for sure some of the world's greatest inventors , doctors, lawyers etc. were black. Note that I left out athletes which is supposedly according to society, the only route for blacks to go in order to actually become successful. This touches me in a negative way. Even 50 years ofter the civil rights movement blacks are still oppressed to these awful stereotypes.
ReplyDelete2)My idea of culture is the background that makes you you. Wherever you are from, wherever you grew up, whoever you grew up with, etc. Your culture is represented by you each and every single day. WHen you walk out of your house everyday what you represent is your culture so whatever you represent you should be proud of it.
1. one stereotype i have been exposed to is that white people are better than black people. this all started when the white man went over to africa, stole all the black people and proclaimed himself superior.
ReplyDelete2. My idea of culture is all the commom characteristics that a group of people share that contribute to making that group distinct. The characteristic of my culture that I am most proud of is that black people are the best at everything. The characteristic that I am least proud of is teh way that my people fare on the socioeconomic side of things.
1) I agree with @Brandi I have been exposed to that stereotype many of times because certian guys are around fast girls so they instanly assume everygirl is like that, another stereotype I have been exposed to is going to a predominately black school means your being small minded and thats not True I just comfortable around my people and I feel like we uplift each other more and push one another towards their goals and aspirations.
ReplyDelete2)Discuss your idea of culture, what are the components of your culture you are most proud of? Least proud of? Why?
Some componets I'm proud of in my culture is poeple know we are strong and never back down when it comes to us fighting for something good. For example the NAACP has been fighting for our rights for a long time. What I'm leats proud of is some people in our culture being needy and ignorant about certian situations. Like some Afriecan Americans feel they cant get certian jobs because they not white, and the man holding them down, but every culture has those types of people.

1. The stereotype that i have been exposed to that really gets to me is that all red girls, especially the ones from new orleans are stuck up and mean, this may be true in some cases, but i do not possess these characteristics.
2.in my opinion, culture is a person's behaviors and beliefs as well as their background as far as their ethnicity.
i am proud of my culture because we are strong and we can endure anything that is thrown our way.
i am least proud of the fact that "we" do crazy things such as "black on black crime", things of that nature.

ReplyDelete1. As an African American female, I have been exposed to many different stereotypes not only targeting the black female but I have over heard conversations about African American males. Black Women: usually overweight/obese, loud, angry, annoying, big behind, gold diggers, have alot of kids and don't know who the father is and always has weave. The Black male: is dumb, lazy, criminals, drop outs, gangsters, mean, great at sports, and loves only white women.
2. Culture is a term used to describe people's whole way of life. It refers to activities in such fields as art, literature, and music;a people's culture consists of all the ideas, objects, and ways of doing things created by the group. Culture includes arts, beliefs, customs, inventions, language, technology and traditions. The components of my culture that I am most proud of is the creativity and the hidden talent that so many African Americans possess. A component of my culture that I am least proud of is that fact that we tend to put each other down and make each other feel as though we may never accomplish anything.
1. Sterotype was exposed to me during hurrican Katrina when i was forced to attend another high school out side of New Orleans and the adminstrators of the high school assumed i was dumb and far behind because i was from New Orelans LA.
ReplyDelete2. My idea of culture is where you come from, your back ground and various ways of living and doing things all this repesents your culture.

ReplyDelete1.I was exposed to this sterotype while attending high school. One sterotype that I have been exposed to is that African Americans are just loud and ignorant. Some believe that it traces back to slavery.
2.My idea of culture is a mixture of things that shape you. It includes where you are from, your family history , and your neighborhood.I am most proud that my family is god fearing and least proud that we are very loud people.
@ Brandi ...Many people do believe females are really sexually. I think this is because of the double standard.
@ Lauren Lemonious... That sterotype has been around from decades. We just have to prove them wrong.
@Aeryka Harvey.... Its our job to change people mind about African Americans
1. A stereotype that I have been exposed to would be black are better in sports than whites. Black people are known to have a "natural athleticism." Whites are known for their hard work, discipline, and knowledge of the game, but are said not to have the natural ability. Sports stereotypes have a real effect in the real world. Most employers are not concerned with employees' natural athletic abilities, so stereotypes of African-Americans being athletically superior for the most part do not help blacks in the real world. However, the stereotypes of whites being hard working, disciplined and smart are helpful to them in finding employment.
ReplyDelete2. My idea of culture is the language, beliefs and customs of the same group of people. I am most proud of the physical attributes of my culture. I think all black people have different traits that make them unique. The component that I am the least proud of would be the stereotypes of black people. I'm not proud of this because, it's a negative stereotype that is not true for all people.
Alex: Some stereotypes are just true.
ReplyDeleteJerinise: I understand. That's exactly how some of the Katrina victims were treated when they came to Detroit after the storm.
Jerome: I don't think you're a thief. :)
1)The sterotype i have been exposed to is that all college girls are freaks in one way or another. It roots baq to the 60's when doing drugs and permiscity was just starting.
ReplyDelete2)Culture to me is a persons morals, religious beliefs, and how they celebrate their holidays
1. One stereotype that I have been exposed to is that people that live outside of the city of New Orleans are country and that we have never been in or near the city. That is not true i do not think i am country at all. The only difference is that where i am from there isn't a high crime rate. I reside about a hour away or less.
ReplyDelete2. Culture are shared beliefs and ideas, morals, norms, values, and customs. It is a person's way of life and what is appropriate and inappropriate. The culture component that i am least proud of is that most african american people tend to put each other down, fight, and doesn't try hard enough to accomplish anything.

ReplyDelete#1) One stereotype that I have been exposed to is, "ALL people from California are stuck up and sedity, PARTICULARLY FEMALES." I've sat back and observed why people think this about us, and I've even asked peple who are not from Cali why do others have these negative perceptions of us? The main response that I've gotten back is it's the way we dress, the way we walk, the way we talk, how we think we're so sophisticated and above everyone else and plenty of more. I personally believe that when people keep to themselves and majority of the time be on point, others get this perception like we feel like we're better. When in reality, we're kind and intelligent people.
#2)Culture to me is comprived of a plethora of things that include: language, food, religion, music, transportation, clothing, holidays, arts and crafts, housing etc. I am most proud of everything from every culture that I identify with : Arican-American, Mexican and Fillipino. The reason that I have no negative things to say about any aspect of these three cultures, is because I appriciate everything the generations before me have done and given up for me to say, "that's apart of my culture."
One stereotype that I have been exposed to blacks are nothing but "B**** and H***. People still think african american women are fast and can't handle their selves in public.
ReplyDeleteMy idea of a culture is the people that make up the culture. If theres negative people in your culture negatives things may come out. If theres positive people positive things come out than you have a good culture.
@alex i totally agree with getting a job if you are black
@brandi You right many people do believe that women are sexually. Many people judge based on looks
@lyneice I agree we all should appreciate the generations before us.
1. Think about Stereotypes you have been exposed to, choose one Stereotype and research its origin. (Post your findings)
ReplyDeleteA stereotype that I have been exposed to is that just because your well off people think that you life is easy. In the beginning of the semester often people though that I was spoiled and snobbish. I beg to differ just because I am getting by now people don't know my story and the struggle that I have gone through. This semester alone has been hard death after death has brought my spirits down. But the point that I am trying to make is that just because someone seems well off financially and emotionally does not mean that they have not struggled to get there. If you knew my story you would know that I have gone through hell and high water to be where I am now.
2. Discuss your idea of culture, what are the components of your culture you are most proud of? Least proud of? Why?
My idea of culture is food, music, style, and many other things. My African-American and Asian culture which is comprised of many unique things from the delicious food to the clothing. I am very proud of my culture because I know of the fight that those before me have gone through to try and make sure I have a better life and that is what I appreciate. What I do not like about my culture is that the current generations have given African-Americans a bad name, there are so many stereotypes against us I can't even begin the list. Although all these things are true and I am still proud to be an African-American. Even though I have not fully learned the roots of my Asian culture I am very proud of it and I am intrigued to learn more about it as the years go on.
1. I know about stereotypes. I'm egyptian and what do you think people always say because im egyptian. I'M A TERRORIST. I know good and well I aint a damn terorrist and i dont know why people think i am. I dont mind the name calling everyonce in a while. I get the occasional Sand Nigger and Camel Jockey but that doesnt bother me but i cant stand it when people call me a terorrist that is just tooooo serious son fa real.
ReplyDelete2. Culture to me is yo lifestyle. The way my family raises me and the different things they do whether it be the things we eat, how we eat, what we should and shouldnt do are all factors of culture. I am proud of my culuture and I havent seen anything not to be proud of yet and if im not proud of it i dont know because i probably dont do it.
This has been another Yung Pharoh post remember im bout dat drama wuzzam!
1. The sterotype that I was exposed to was after Hurricane Katrina. The adminstration did not believe I could excel in advance placement classes. At my previous high school I was in advance placement classes.
ReplyDelete2. To me culture is the way we live. I am proud to say that African Americans have came a long way We are seen as strong people. I am least proud of they way some blacks may act in public. As a result, people sterotype.
Brandi: I agree with you. There are some girls that have respect for themselves.
ReplyDeleteEllissia: Keep working hard and don't worry about what anyone may say.
Lauren Lemonious: I was treated the same way.
I also agree with Brandi. If a female tells someone that she isn't sexually active they automatically feel as though she is lying when she really could be. I feel its a shame that the world has gotten so bad to whereas its hard to believe that someone is a virgin. This is why the rate of aids and other stds are incr4easing.
ReplyDeleteCulture to me is your heritage. Where you come from and they way you may do things.

ReplyDelete1. A stereotypeI have been exposed to when I was living in California is that I'm country & have seen farm animals because I am from Louisiana. I assume that originted from slaves days knowing that Louisiana was a slave state.
2. Culture is ones beliefs, morals, and standards.
Ellisia & Doreall i concur.
The stereotypes that I have been exposed to are that all light skin girls are stuck-up. I have been told that many, many, many, times and I think that it is false. I am light skin, and I am not stuck up at all. When I first came to Dillard University many people that talk to me today say, “I didn’t talk to you, because most light skin girls are stuck up and I assumed you were to.” Every person is different in their own way so I think that, that stereotype is irrelevant to all colors.
ReplyDeleteMy idea of culture is the background that makes you who you are. Where you are from, where you grew up, and whoever you grew up with. Your culture is represented by you each and every day. When you walk out of your house everyday what you represent what your culture is so whatever you represent you should be proud.
@Jerome Bailey: Our answeres were very similar, i agree with you on the culture. Your culture is what you represent.
ReplyDelete@T.Moane: i agree, you cut straight to the point.
@alannia: dont EVER le any tell you what you can and cannot do, do yo thang!

ReplyDelete1.Think about Stereotypes you have been exposed to, choose one Stereotype and research it’s origin. (Post your findings)
Colored People's Time, CP Time, or CPT, is an American expression referring to a stereotype of African Americans or Latinos as frequently being late. It is an inside joke, in that both groups use the term themselves, making light of when they're late, or being known for being late for appointments. There was also a 1960s public interest program produced by Detroit Public Television with the name "Colored People's Time".
2.Discuss your idea of culture, what are the components of your culture you are most proud of? Least proud of? Why?
Culture is represented by a group of individuals with shared beliefs, values, customs, and way of life. In realtion to my culture i am most proud of the diversity of black people and how talented we are as a people.I am least proud of the stereotypes but on black males because not all black males are lazy, abusive, or run away from their responsibilities.
1.) One stereotype that I have been exposed to is the myth that black people are less intelligent than white people. This myth/stereotype originates from slavery when blacks were enslaved by whites and were considered inferior and subhuman to them.
ReplyDelete2.) Culture is defined as a group of people with common beliefs, values and custom. One component of my culture that I am proud of is black hair because black women and men take pride in their hair. A custom that I am least proud of is the cradle to prison pipeline system in the black community because it shows that black people arent making enough progress.
Yung Pharoh>>>Yeah..Wow I didnt know you were Egyptian but anyways good point people do stereotype based on looks alone.
Chillia>>> You are right. Black women do get portrayed as being such. We have to work three times as hard in life being black women today.
Dorrell Jupiter>>> Yeah I understand I'm from Alabama and people think Alabama is super country and filled with red necks... well it bout is but not the part I live in.

ReplyDeleteTan-Talaysha Bailey: what does slavery have to do with being called country... i feel this stereotype needs more research
Destiny Dickens: you mentioned a stereotype but i was no research or means of origin.
Alianna: huricane Katrina was something serious trust me i know.
1. One stereotype type that i was introduced to was all boys that have dreads are hustlers or just dont have anything going for themselves. This is not true!
ReplyDelete2. The thing that i would have to say about my culture is that by me being black, indian, and creole, I havent even asked questions about my origin and culture, but its something that Iam looking forward to collaborating with my culture today.
@ alexandria- I have heard this stereotype too, I beleive this is another myth that has to be put to rest.
ReplyDelete@destiny-lol. Some light skinned gilrs are stuck up, I kno a few myself, but yeah there are light skinned girls who are normal and arent stuck up!
1.A stereotype that I have been exposed to is that all black girls are ghetto. I do not agree with this stereotype because I know that I am not ghetto.
ReplyDelete2. The compenents of my culture that I am proud of is where I come from and how my culture has mixed with other cultures.
Think about Stereotypes you have been exposed to, choose one Stereotype and research its origin. (Post your findings)
ReplyDeleteOne of the more recent stereotypes that I have encountered is that “all “dread heads” smoke weed, do drugs, commit criminal acts, are dirty, and uneducated”. I truly find this appalling. In the two and a half years I have been locking my hair I have become an active target for ignorant comments. I do not smoke weed, nor do I do drugs, have never been in trouble with the law, I believe proper hygiene is necessary mentally and physically, and I am advocate for education (majority of my family members are educators so I don’t have much of an option but to strive for excellence in school). This stereotype is extremely dumb and uneducated to assume. I at times wish I could play India Arie’s “I am not my hair” to put a light into some peoples life, but all I can do is pray for them. I believe this stereotype comes from people believing that if you have locks than you are of Caribbean descent and that you live a very mellow and relaxed life and or you want to be like Lil Wayne which is extremely stupid.
2. Discuss your idea of culture, what are the components of your culture you are most proud of? Least proud of? Why?
I think having culture is a beautiful thing. One who obtains culture is one whom has respect for themselves and other. I am honestly proud of my entire culture. People of African descent have contributed so much to the world many that credit is not given to. Such has rock and roll, hip hop, jazz, soul food, the traffic light, the cell phone…..the list could go on!!
Destiny Dickens
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on that, not all light skinned girls are stuck, there are some that think highly of themselves but someone should try to get to know you before they say you are stuck up.
The stereotype that i have been exposed to all red girls and mean, this may be true in some cases, but im not.
ReplyDelete2.My idea of culture is the background that makes you who you are. Where you are from, where you grew up, and whoever you grew up with. Your culture is represented by you each and every day. When you walk out of your house everyday what you represent what your culture is so whatever you represent you should be proud.
1. THe most common stereotype is that I am mean. I don't know if its the look on my face or how i carry myself but its wrong.
ReplyDelete2. My idea of culture is what makes a certain group of people alike and different in a specific way. The friendliness of New Orleanians is not found anywhere else. I am proud of that. I am least proud of the title "Party City". Just because we know how to have a good time doesn't mean that we party ALL the time.
Stereotypes that I have been exposed to are that all black males cheat, lie, are in jail, and don't take care of there children. I don't agree with all of this stereotype because all the males in my family take care of their children and none of them are in jail. So this stereotypes sometimes makes me upset because they just assume that this is the way all black men are and its not true.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, culture is how you are raised and the way your family views morals and society. I am proud of my culture, however, most people in my culture are very hypocritical and judgmental and i am not. I am older now so i can see the world the way i want to see it instead of how my culture views it.
Angell Luter
ReplyDelete1. The stereotype that I have been exposed to is the fact that all high school catholic students think they are better than others. I attended a catholic high school and this stereotype is not true. I have a variety of friends from both publi and catholic high schools and we all are equally the same. Research have found that it all depends on the person and their attitude.
2. My idea of culture is your way of life and background. i am proud that my people have come a long way from slavery to running the U.S. office as president. I am least proud that there is so much black on black crime in the world today. This is hurting our own background.
2.
Sterotypes I've been exposed to is that black women are Jezebels. Many think of black women as lascivious. they think their seductive, wordly, tempting and lewd. Black women often portray themselves as innately promiscuous and predatory, which is know as a jezebel.
ReplyDeleteCulture is my lifestyle. My lifestyle includes my costums, beliefs, morals, and values. Culture also consists of my learned ways of acking. Although i like my culture because of the things we and our styles, i dislike the behavior of certain individuals
1) A stereotype I researched was why they say Asians can’t drive. The origin of that stereotype is that they have really squinted eyes so it looks like they can’t see the road and they get into a lot of accidents.
ReplyDelete2) my idea of culture is the different customs, morals, values, likes dislikes, clothes, music, accents, and things related that a specific group of people share.
I like how kimyana says culture is her lifestyle
i like
"what makes a certain group of people alike and different in a specific way"
1. One sterotype that gets my attention, is that all black males are worthless. I think that is just because the color of our skin.
ReplyDelete2. My idea of culture is the different skin tone of blackness. We are red, yellow, hershey, african, purple, and in between.
I agree Shei-Duh because I do agree with black morals, values, likes dislikes, clothes, music, accents, and things related that a specific group of people share. We are all different in a equal way.
I agree with everybody because we are all different but equal in our culture.
one sterotype i noticede alot was that light skinned people think they are to much. trully it goes all the way back to slavery when the slave owner tryed to make the darker africans dislike the lighter africans by treating the lighter africans tad bit better.
ReplyDeletei love the food of New Orleans it is so soulful and tasteful.
shei-duh your sterotype is really funny but very wrong. i also like your defition of culture. morals and beleifs are some big keys in culture.
ReplyDeleteBianca Young
ReplyDelete1)Within today’s society there aremany different stereotypes. The one that stands out the most to me is the fact that all chinese people are considered intelligent.
2)I define culture as shared knowledge, beliefs, and values.
@ Lauren: I agree, there are many of indivduals who feel whites are better than blacks.
@ Jerinise: I can’t relate to the form of stereotyping you have mention, but I have heard a lot about it.
@ Alexandria: I agree

ReplyDeleteThe stereotype that i have found is that all black people are lazy
2.Discuss your idea of culture, what are the components of your culture you are most proud of? Least proud of? Why?
My ideas of my culture are basically and simply that i am a African American i am most proud of the advancement of a people in the United States in Art and Literature but i am least proud of what we have turned into and we are now fighting against our brothers and sister
sterotypes....
ReplyDeletei have been exposed to many... one particular one is black!!! only cause im black it doesn't not mean im under educated and that im going to kill someone. I believe that BLACK is beatiful!!!!
I agree with christopher keys, brandi and keyaira franklin...ive been exposed to all of that plus some being black...being a female...and also being down granded because someone thought i was lazy...all I can say with people who want to STEREOTYPE is get a life and stop worrying about mines!!!
ReplyDelete1.Think about Stereotypes you have been exposed to, choose one Stereotype and research it’s origin. (Post your findings)
Ive been exposed to plenty stereotypes...BEING aFRICAN aMERICAN FEMALE to others it mean I would be a house wife, be uneducated, and unsuccessfull... I feel as tho without black women life wouldnt be what it is today...so dnt discriminate nd down graded we are the heart of this world whether you like it or not..
2.Discuss your idea of culture, what are the components of your culture you are most proud of? Least proud of? Why?
Im black and im proud...my culture has done so much and progressed in the world today...we went from being owned to owning and enterpruenership our own companies...im proud to that because Barack Hussein Obama is my 44th president and im aware that anything is possible if u set ur mind to it..
1. One stereotype in my culture is about black women perming because they subconciously hate themselves. The ideology that straight hair will make you more attractive came from the people of European decent.
ReplyDelete2. One thing i enjoy about my culture is that we always had the attitude to presevere. One thing I do not enjoy about my culture is our willingness to destroy ourselves.
1. i have never came i across any stereotypes.
ReplyDelete2. my idea of culture is your way of living. Your afmily background. im proud of my family culture we are pretty much the modern-day Soul Food family cast.LOL
1.Think about Stereotypes you have been exposed to, choose one Stereotype and research it’s origin. (Post your findings)
ReplyDeleteI have been exposed to stereotypes about black people for all of my life. I have heard that all black people like chicken, black people steal, black people are good athletes, and that white people are less smart than black people. I definitely know that this last one is false because I beat out about 50 white students in my high school class to become my class valedictorian. The worse thing about stereotyping black people as thieves is when people follow us around in stores like we are going to take their merchandise.
2.Discuss your idea of culture, what are the components of your culture you are most proud of? Least proud of? Why?
The most important things in my culture i am proud of are the many African American people who are successful and dignifying. I am least proud of the large population of African American men who are in prison, rather than in college.
1. a stereotype I have been exposed to is that all black people grew up and came rom the projects I personally faced this my entire life since i grew up in the suburbs and kids said I used to act white in which i didnt
ReplyDelete2. I love my culture o bein african american
I loved to history projects and black history month I thought is wasthe best month other than m birthday month. I am proud to black and I love my people. I am least poudof the decline of the blak man.they arent being fathers to their childrens or being men at all.
1. Well i know that back in the day we(americans) believed that the asian people couldnt see in the dark and that is what allowed them to bomb pearl harbor.
ReplyDelete2.The component of my culture i am most proud of is that we are enduring and persistant, least proud of would be that we sometimes play into stereotypical roles and add to the belief of those stereotypes
1. A sterotype that I notice is that the girls are very sexually active....wonder why that is?
ReplyDelete2.Componetn of my culture I am proud of how blacks are yet rising
