1.my current note taking system is related to an outline of all the important information.Strategies i can add to my note taking system probably would be......i dont know, you tell me.
ReplyDelete2.my barriers to active listening includes comprehending pertinent information opposed to the irrelevant.Probably i would incorporate more detailed listening.

1.)My note taking method would be to write down all i can. later i would rewrite it and make sense of it on paper. by it making sense on paper, i can understand it in my mind. my strategies would include: reviewing it every day or any time i can. my listening and reading can coincide by: recording it on my phone and on paper. i can ask for more examples of a point.
2.)Some of my barriers are: talking to much about one area and not getting to the others. i understand discussing it until everyone understands but after everyone gets it, its time to move on.
1. a scuessful skill one can add to thier note taking skill could be spliting the notes in half. Questions on one side and answers on the other.
ReplyDelete2. things you can do that are valuable could for one be time mangement. discuss later after you get all intstructions. And talk to the teacher.
To All,
ReplyDeleteThe book has detailed information, your responses should reflect your understanding ot the text, not just what you believe to be true from prior knowledge,
1. The method of note taking that I currently use is take notes similar to how they are visually presented to me. If they are not visually presented to me, then I basically just make bullets. It's most simalar to the outlining technique, but in my own note taking I rarely go as far as to make an outline. The strategy I could add to my note taking is to be more detailed, but honestly, I think my note taking is pretty sufficient. I've never failed a test or had trouble studying due to bad notes.
ReplyDelete2. One of my barriers to active listening is that I tend to tune out when I'm bored. If people talk about stuff I don't care about, I dont listen...unless its for a grade. I also tend to metally argue with the speaker if he is or she is saying something I don't agree with. The book says I'm supposed to try not to do that because just because I disagree doesn't mean the speaker is wrong.
My note taking is very organized kind of like an outline. I like them to be neat so I can read them so I may type them later.
ReplyDeleteOne of my barriers to active listening is thinking about other things while other people are talking. I should try to stay focused.
1.Currently, I use an outline and to save time so that I may keep up with what the teacher is saying, I abbreviate. In comparison to reading, I dont take notes that same way when reading. I take out all the important facts and some that may seem insignificant, but may be used on an exam. Taking out the important facts can add to my note taking.
ReplyDelete2.What are some of your barriers to active listening? What ideas from the reading can you incorporate into your active listening?
Some of my barriers to active listening is being bored. I truly honestly dislike instructors that are monotoned and show no emotion. I would simply hear their voice but nothing they say would register.
-Aeryka
1.) My notetaking style is pretty simple. I record info as the teacher lectures, highlighting the most important facts, and abbreviating when necessary. I also put my professors' statements in my own words at times. My notes vary from paragraph form to outline settings. In high school i practiced using cornell style note taking because i was told this would better help me in college, however i think that my current style has proven to be the most effective.
ReplyDelete2.)I think my barriers are the common barriers in a school setting: Being distracted. Particularly in class it is very easy for one's attention to get diverted and loose focus. Although this does not occur regularly with me, i will say that it is quite normal in any academic setting, wether it be a phone, other students, or a boring lecture, we often find our minds digressing. In social settings however, i think i am quite fortunate to have a high attention span and i tend to give anyone who is speaking to me my undevided attention. If i were to add anything that would help me be an active listner it would probably be continuing to follow the L-STAR system, as mentioned in the book.

1. When taking notes, I use cornell style note taking. I was first introduced to this style of note taking as a sophomore in high school. When I first got introduced to this method of note taking, I realized that it was highly effective and by taking notes in this manner, it made the learning process easier.
2. My barrier to active listening, is the fact that i am easily distracted. The smallest thing, like a pen falling on the floor, can distract me from listening.
My note taking method is to write down everything my professors put on the board, and also read my textbooks to write down useful information.
ReplyDeletei think a barrier of active listening is not accepting others ideas, and being closed-minded on a topic that you dont know about.
1. i write all i can on loose leaf then when i get the chance i write them in my spiral and clean them up, which gives me the chance to read over them for understanding and see it again. i cant find the styles in the book so i dnt know what i can add
ReplyDelete2.I get sidetracked easy so thats a barrier.
Chermaine Jones said
ReplyDelete1.) I usually read what there is to be read and then go back and take notes. i usually take the text and put it in my own words.
2.)Mines are not playing close attention, talking while the teacher is or just not staying focus. staying on track and doing what i am suppose to do.
for my fellow classmate i just think we have to much going on. we need to just stay focus and consertate on the things that infront us and not around us.
1. I usually use the outline techinque, but I might add the splitpage techinque to remember question I have during the lecture.
ReplyDelete2. My barrier from being an active listener is day-dreaming and drawing during class. If I sit in the front I will be less likely draw during class.
1.Which method of note taking do you currently use? Compare your current method of note taking to those in the reading, which strategies can add to your note taking.
ReplyDeleteNormally my teachers just have the notes on a power point so i copy it from the copy power point. When I have taken notes from listening to lectures I use the outline technique.
2.What are some of your barriers to active listening? What ideas from the reading can you incorporate into your active listening?
My barriers for listening that I have a short attention span. I will start day - dreaming in class. I get bored really easliy. Since I have started sitting in the front of the class I have been able to hold back some on the day - dreaming.
Also I think that I could add the cornell frame techinique because it looks more organized to me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Aeryka in that sometimes when things bore me, I don't care about them, and then listening is just not an option.
ReplyDeleteLike Markia said, one of the things that helps me to pay close attention in class is trying to sit as close to in front of the room as possible.
To everyone else, I hope to have a more detailed method of note taking one day; it just won't be today.
1) Dorian,
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing because normally when your trying to take notes you write as fast as you can and the notes are usually messy.
2)Alexjandra S-Z,
I have the same problem with paying attention in class.
3)Ekebnta Okorn,
I pretty much use the same note taking style as you.
1. The method of notetaking that I most often use is the outlining method. I usually do this with powerpoints or when I know that I will be taught multiple aspects of one thing. I also use bullet points.
ReplyDelete2.One of my barriers for active listening is that I prejudge. If something bores me or if the teacher is teaching in a manner that makes it seem as if he/she doesnt care about the information I lose interest. A way to resolve this is by listening for the valuable info in a teacher's lecture.
1. The method of notetaking I often use is the method of highlighting the important parts I hear from the teacher. Whatever the teacher emphasizes and says the most thats I what I eaither highlight or boldface.
ReplyDelete2. My attention span is very low, that is a problem I have with active listening. I can very often get carried away in my mind and all of a sudden in a matte rmof minutes Im on a whole different planet than everyone else in the room is. I can work on this problem by getting more sleep so I can be more focused when I am in class.
1.Which method of note taking do you currently use? Compare your current method of note taking to those in the reading, which strategies can add to your note taking.
ReplyDeleteI currently use the outline note taking technique. Certain strategies such as using capitalized letters as bullets may help me organize my notes better.
2.What are some of your barriers to active listening? What ideas from the reading can you incorporate into your active listening?
Some of my barriers to active listening is that I tend to tune out the person speaking sometimes. I need to concerntrate on what is being said and not the person saying it.
Chardai Grays
ReplyDelete1. My current note taking system involves the outline technique. I write down all the important topics and subdivided information that coincide with that main topic. Maybe I could add the modified cornell system to my note taking system.
2. My current barriers to active listening are prejudging and bringing my emotions to the table. I need to listen to the message not the messager. Also, I need focus on the message.
1.Which method of note taking do you currently use? Compare your current method of note taking to those in the reading, which strategies can add to your note taking.
ReplyDeleteI currently take notes using the outline technique. I am going to add the mapping and the Cornell method to my note taking.
2.What are some of your barriers to active listening? What ideas from the reading can you incorporate into your active listening?
I am easily distracted when I am listening to someone. I learned that I need listen with a purpose, objectively, and constructively.
Raymond...
ReplyDeleteAre the methods you use effective?
Adrienne...
Thanks... that typing out notes method really helped me keep my notes organized.
Doriane....
I have that sidetrack problem too... It seems there can be somethings way more interesting than what I am supposed to be listening to.

ReplyDelete1. I highlight the text and i write in down on a piece of paper. It's like the outline technique.
ReplyDelete2. Sometimes I get distracted when someone is talking to me. I usually get distracted when the subject seems boring to me.
1.Which method of note taking do you currently use? Compare your current method of note taking to those in the reading, which strategies can add to your note taking.
ReplyDeleteAs I looked at the different forms of note taking such as Cornell notes or even mapping I realized that these are some pretty informative and creative ways to take notes. As I evaluated my note taking compared to those in the Jubilee book I realized that my note taking habits are nowhere near any of those listed in the book.
Once realizing that I saw that I would like to incorporate the Cornell notes because it gives me the opportunity to put on the side any questions of facts that I may need clarification on.
2. What are some of your barriers to active listening? What ideas from the reading can you incorporate into your active listening?
Some barriers to active listening is that you are listening to the teacher so much you forget to take notes so that you can review what the teacher was speaking of in the class. I think a good thing I can incorporate into my active listening is making sure I take notes while also paying attention to the teacher, or bringing a tape recorder to class so that I am able to give my undivided attention to the teacher and go back later and review the materials in class.
Cherise Thomas...
ReplyDeleteI like to use bullets also. I don't concentrate on what i'm suppose to. I get distracted if I see something interesting to me.
LYNIECE_ CATALAN SAIDDDDD.....
ReplyDelete#1) The method that I currently use is bullet points that paraphrase everything my professors discuss in my classes. I don't write down word for word, but I do get the important concepts and build off of them as they continue to lecture. Just because my penmanship is impeccable, does not mean that my notes are in order. That's the main thing that I need to do, is organize my notes. Organization when note taking is crucial, and I just found that out over these past 2 days, because these tests I just took required me to look over my notes, and I couldn't even distinguish what notes belonged to what chapter.... I definetly need some ORGANIZATION in my liveliness.
#2) My barriers to active listening is when I have friends in the classes I take, I get distracted easily, or my mind begins to wonder when the professor doen't engage the students when teaching. A couple of my professors don't say anything to us but when they call our names for roll call. I learn best when I'm able to ask questions, clarify things and be an active student thats engaged in the material being taught.
1. Currently my note taking is simply documenting the statements the teacher stress.I use bullets to separate the information into sections.
ReplyDelete2. My barriers to active listening is not always comprehending what the teacher says and failing to ask questions for better understanding until later. It might help if i read the text before class so that I have an understanding or I could ask questions as often as needed.
Lyniece: Friends can be a big distraction. Thats why it is important to move away from them sometimes until after class.
Cherise: Distractions are everywhere. It's up to you to remain focused.
Lauren: I agree that it is hard to pay attention when you are bored.
1.) My method for note taking is to write down everything my professor writes on the board or what he/she says. Sometimes I use outlines or the split page note taking technique. While my professor is talking or writing I also highlight the important facts.
ReplyDelete2.) My barriers for listening is I get bored easily. Sometimes I just hear my professor lectures but I am not listening to them. Because I get bored easily I sit to the front of the class in most of my classes, which I think keeps me interested.
1. The method of note taking that I use is outlining. I feel that this method allows me to get down a lot of information in a short amount of time. The only problem I have is that sometimes one of my professors moves too rapidly from topic to topic and I get totally LOST. I then get frustrated because I know that I have missed an important note. From reading the text I have discovered a few techniques to help with this problem. One is to ask the professor to repeat the information. Another is to ask him/her to slow down. If he/she does neither, leave a blank space and come back later. It is more important to focus on the information being given at that moment than information given 5 minutes before.
ReplyDelete2. My major barrier to active listening is the third obstacle in the text: bringing my emotions to the table. I often worry about my family and things that are going on at home. This makes me wonder if I should be here at college or at home where it seems like my family needs me. I get so overwhelmed at times that I sit and class and have no idea what is going on. After class is over I realize this and feel bad because I know that my grades will suffer.
@ KIMYANA
ReplyDeleteI agree that sitting in front of the class makes things a lot easier. I am more likely to pay attention because the professor can see pretty much everything I am doing.
@ CHERISE
One of my professors is awfully boring and I get tired of listening to the lecture. I need to start paying attention more to the lecture instead of how it is delivered.
@ EKEBNTA
Outlining can be tedious work and your idea of puuting the professors lecture into my own words could be very helpful to me. It is so hard to try and get every bit of information down word for word.

ReplyDelete1.Which method of note taking do you currently use? Compare your current method of note taking to those in the reading, which strategies can add to your note taking.
The curret method of note taking that i use is the outline technique.I normally use only one big heading and a series of subheadings to add to my note taking i can begin to use more big headings to better the flow of my notes.
2.What are some of your barriers to active listening? What ideas from the reading can you incorporate into your active listening?
Some of the barriers i face during active listening is that i know how to liten only constructively. To better my listening skills i can begin to be open minded or listen with purpose and incorporate a few of the methods used in objective and purposeful listening.
1.The method of note taking that I use is written out my notes an outline form and then I'll read over it several of times.
ReplyDelete2.My barriers to active listening are when I'm in class and I get bored I sometimes tune out all the stuff that was said. The ideas are that you can maybe ask the teacher to explain it more to where it is interesting to you.
1. My current method of note taking is writing down everything the teacher says and writes on the board. It becomes stressful sometimes trying to write down everythig you see and hear but this way I figure I can not go wrong. Cornell notes are a good way to take notes because I had to do it in high school for note book checks. This is a great way to organize notes.
ReplyDelete2.With active listening I seem to drift off and space out to who knows where. That has always been a problem for me so I have to make myself pay attention to keep from drifting far away. Reading the text before class would help me to pay attention before because I will hear things that I already know about.
Jasmine Hardman: I love your goals for active reading.
Raven Hardy: I agree with the same problem for active listening. I too find it hard to ask questions but because I think I can figure it out later on my own.
Tandraer,
ReplyDeleteI know that sometimes our families and homelife can over take our good intentions. What I can suggest is to stay in the moment. If your class is 50 minutes, for that short time leave everything at the door. Your mind can use the break from the worry.
As far as doubting your decision to be here in college you have
made the right choice. You will be far better equipped to help out when you have college graduate behind your name.
Misha,
ReplyDeleteI too sometimes drift and yes reading before hand is so helpful. It reallyales you feel as of you can have some real intellectual discourse with your instructors.
Two more suggestions that helped me was to review the reading and jog down a skeleton set of notes. This give you a jump start on what your instuctor may discuss.
I think the best stategy I've used this far is to check online for chapter review questions from another text. I use those to ask my instructor questions. Gets really hard to drift when you are asking questions that others may not ask.
Raven,
asking questions is one of the better ways to get clarity. Take some time before class to write them down. You'll be focused and have the time to formulate the question the way you want it to sound.
1. The method of note taking I currently use is the “outline technique”. I don’t believe that my notes are as neatly drawn out as those displayed in the book, however the style is very similar. I can begin to highlight important sections while taking notes just as I do when reading.
ReplyDelete2. Some of my barriers are taking down all of the appropriate needed notes while listening. Often time’s professors tend to speak quickly without repeating, so I must tune in 100% in order to get accurate notes.
1. The method of not taking I'm currently using is, writing down exactly what the teacher writes down,or say's more than once.A new way i found out to take notes is a mini notebook you make out of loose leaf paper. Its a convenient way to study on the go.
ReplyDelete2.Some of the barriers I face during active listening..is actually listening. My mind starts to wander extremely fast if you dont have my full attention and keep it interesting. One of the steps I can use to help me with this is,make up in my mind that everything the teacher is saying I NEED to know it in order to pass
Craishan Bridges responded :
ReplyDelete1. The method that i use for my note taking is creating and outline , web and i also use astricks when im pointing out the more important facts within my notes . I also organize my notes into one section , so i can know where to go for them .
2. One of the barriers that i trouble with is prejudge . I like to prejudge alot because im want to be able to engage into a conversation that i can relate to. I can probably help myself with this problem , by trying to give what the teacher is saying a hance before i begi to judge .
Angell Luter
ReplyDelete1. Currently, I take notes in the outline technique. I find it to be more organized and easier to understand. I don't think there is a better way I could take notes with my learning style.
2. One barrier for my active listening is comprehending uninteresting topics. If I have absolutely no interest in the topic that is being discussed I would only hear the person(not listen).
shautera Clofer,
ReplyDelete1. The method of note taking I'am currently taking is to write down all the key notes or things that sound fimiler to me, and to go off what I already know. My method is somewhat like the book; however, it is not that neat and mapped out but I can take tips from this method and try to fellow it.
2. Some of my barriers to active listening is that I tend to bring emotions to the listening situation and I also prejudge information or its sources. Some ides that I could incorporate into my active listening is, I can listen to information that is valuable to me, I can listen to the message and not the messenger,I can focus on the message, and create a positive image about the message im hearing.
To Johnathan Watson
ReplyDeleteyou should read some of the methods out of the book it could really be helpful and you could find more note taking strategies, you would be suprised.
1. My method of note taking is reading before i get to class and outlining while I read. While in the class, if the professor teaches anything important pertaining to the material, I simply add a side note in my outline. If I hear key words or main ideas that I think are important, I write them down as well. If the professor is giving notes in class, i abbreviate many of my words to make sure I get the full statement without taking the time to write every single word. One strategy from the book I can use in my daily note taking is using the mapping system. I could use the mapping system to map out sections of my outline that I have trouble understanding.
ReplyDelete2.Some of my barriers of active listening are paying attention to things that are not interesting, letting problems interfere with my listening, or if I'm bored I find myself doing other things such as texting or talking.
1. I actually dont use note taking skills that are listed in the book. The whole organizing and cornell notes are not my style. I like to just write my notes and throw in the extras where they fit. I know what sections I write my notes in so I always know where to look for something.
ReplyDelete2. I usually dont have a problem with listening. I may go in and out every once in a while but who doesnt. I know I listen well because I understand a lot of things. I do what the book suggests in come cases such as listening with a purpose and listening according to the situation. A statement I agree with in the book is asking myself "How will this help my life or education?"

I like how your note taking technique is more unique in a way and I ask myself that question you stated like everyday.
To Chervon
You don't get bored in class if you read the chapter before the class starts since they're basically telling you what you already know?
To Shautera,
Building on your method of note taking I feel will improved your studies, though I'm not saying anything is wrong with what you're already doing.

1) The current note taking method I use is the sentence method I simple just write every the facts or topic on separate line, numbering as I progress on a subject.I just jot down whats important and whats a must know. I would like to try or add the outline note taking method it looks more organized and easier to comprehend.
2)Some of my barriers to active listening is when I get a Information overload on one topic thats basically what I go through in chemistry, also Noise is another barrier all I can do is simply sit closer to the front so I can hear every word my teacher is saying and just use bullet points to show the important things on a topic.
1.The method of note taking that i currently use is to just copy the teachers notes off of the board.Compared to the notes in the reading i need to take notes by mouth writing them down rather than copying.
ReplyDelete2.Some of the barriers of reading is by the level of interest.By reading this reading i found that i need be an effective listener and listen reguardless to the interest level
1.) My current style of note-taking is by outlining the chapter. I try to read the chapter first and then outline it so that I can fully comprehend the information. The next day at school I compare my notes and add information from what the teacher says to my notes.
ReplyDelete2.) Some barriers that I have with listening is that sometimes i being listening with a negative note. If I'm having a bad day sometimes I tend to forget to leave my problems at the door and I let my issues get in the way of listening to the professor.
1) My current method of note taking may not be the best, because I often find myself not being able to write down everything that I wanted to write. I usually try to write everything that the professor says or writes on the board. The technique that may be most useful to me is listening for key words, phrases, and hints. This will help me pick out the important information.
ReplyDelete2)My barrier with active listening is that I often tune out lectures that are boring or seem to difficult for me to understand. Sometimes my mind will drift and I will miss out on a lot of information. In order to prevent this from continuing, I may have to pay closer attention and listen for valuable information.
-Corionne Eugene
1. The method i usually tend to use in taking notes is bullet points. i listen, or read through the book and seperate the information from what i will most likely use.
ReplyDelete2. My biggest barrier sometimes in active listening is that sometimes it is borig. I may lose focus sometimes and listen part of the time but kinda tune out
Alexandria,
ReplyDeleteSometimes its really hard to focus in class when something is bothering you or if you have unresolved problems. All you can do is try to let it go for as long as you can and focus on your work.
Brandi,
Honestly it would probably be a good idea to listen to everything but unfortunately we know its not going to happen. If you are to tune things out, tune out the things that you find unimportant that you probably wont use much or at all. Thats usually what I do.
Chervon,
Do you read your notes right before you go to class, the day before, or a few days before?
1.)My current style of note taking is outlining, I write down the main idea and then key points related tothe point. I used to take cornell style because my teacher made me.I disliked that style because it wasted to my paper. I somtimes re write or add more to my notes.
ReplyDelete2.) Some barrieers have with listening s sometimes I will drift of in to another world when so much is on my mind. I forget to leave my problem s at the door and carry them into the classroom. I also am dostracted very easily and start doing other things instead of paying attention to the assignment at hand.

ReplyDelete1)Currently I’m using the outline technique to take notes. One of the main differences between my method of note taking and those within the text is the layout.
2) The one barrier that prevent me from listening is my failure to set aside personal problems until after class.
This is LaMegan...
ReplyDelete1) My current note taking technique is just to simply write short hand. I usually write what the professor is saying repeatedly are the mainpoints of the lecture. Another strategy that I can add to my note taking is to outline my notes. Basically to break my notes down into topics and subtopics.
2) Some barriers to active listening can be if you disagree with what someone has to say. Another barrier is if you dislike the person that is trying to deliver the message. Some ideas from reading that can be incorporated in my listening is to be open minded to what anyone has to say.You never know what you can learn from others, even if you dislike them.
1. The type of note taking that I do is bullet. I'll write down the chapter name and then the section and just write down all the notes, and then continue for each section until I'm complete.
ReplyDelete2. The one barrier that prevents me from active listening is whether or not the lecture is boring. If the lecture is boring, then I'll easily be side-tracked. If its interesting then I'll pa attenetion, other than that it goes through one ear and out the other for me.
1. When I take notes I write dwon everything the instructor tells me to and when I get home put it all in outline form.
ReplyDelete2. My barries for active listing is when the lecture is completly boring and the instructor sounds like blah blah blah. I also get bored very easy so its hard to always pay attention.
1. my note taking is to really write down anything and everything and then go back in and decide whats important. Just like in my Global Past II by the time I finish for a chapter i have about six pages back and front. It just helps to me to read everything because you never know what you need.
ReplyDelete2. Some barriers to active listening is lack of interest and distraction. For me I get distacted easily and stop listening when i get bored or I dont think that what they are saying has anything to do with me. One way to do something about this problem is pay attention and work on having a short attention span
LaShonda B.
ReplyDelete1.)My method for note taking is to write all points down that I think is important.even if the professor or so emphasizes it I may also write that down as well.
1. When I take notes I use the summary and outline note taking. First, I write a quick summary of what the professor is saying, put it into my own words, and then provide a good written outline. If I had to add another strategy into my note taking ways it would probaly be more of a topic sorting way. I would want to generate more topics of each note that I take. It would make my notes more organized and well kept.
ReplyDelete2. My barriers of a active listener is disagreements and wrong doings. Getting things wrong and disagreements would bring down my scores and attiude. But, I need to listen better in order to get things right in order to pass.
I agree with everybody who does outlining note taking because it is the best way to note take.
ReplyDelete1. When taking notes I usually use the outline technique.I will start with a topic then use the bullets for the subtopics, writing what the instructor has given in class and making notes to myself. So when I go back to the notes to study, I have a more in-depth understanding of the lesson.
ReplyDelete2. My barriers to active listening would be prejudging. When the person communicating to me is not interesting, or I don't agree with what is being said, I usually tune out what they are saying.
i use the method of me being by myself with music on and a nice plate of food for me to eat and what helps me on my active listening is that i dont repeat the words i delve in on what the person said and bring my opion into it
ReplyDeletesee ana i like your method of bullets because it is more organized and when plan greatly then you most likely will have great grade.
ReplyDeleteI write down what I feel is important are sometimes I may write what the professor may say over and over again.
ReplyDeleteMy barriers to active listening is I may tune people out when I get boring. I would incorporate comprehending more or ask questions when I don't unserstand.
- my method for note taking is: as i listen to the instructor, i write down as much as i can or sometimes the improtant things or things i didnt know before. it may look very messy but it is helpful to me
ReplyDelete-my barriers to active listening is that i get distracted easily and and if the topic is not interesting, i have a hard time staying focused and listening
Maurice Steen
ReplyDelete1. I use the basic note taking i dont need 2 do anything special just take my time and get all information.
2. Just stay focus and not zone out or think bout other things thats going on in my life or around me.
i do that to....
ReplyDelete1. I take basic notes fairly similar to the outlining technique or the Cornell system. I don't completely use these systems because I'm trying to keep a constant pace with the instructor as they teach. I think my method of note taking and the systems in the book are the same by taking down needed information, but the systems are a better way of organizing it.
ReplyDelete2. I fully agree that prejuding is my barrier to active listening. If the teacher is boring or I find them incorrect, I will tune them out completely. I don't believe my emotions or talking to much gets in the way of my active listening. I can pretty much keep my emotions under control and I don't talk a lot.
As I looked at the different forms of note taking such as Cornell notes or even mapping I realized that these are some pretty informative and creative ways to take notes. As I evaluated my note taking compared to those in the Jubilee book I realized that my note taking habits are nowhere near any of those listed in the book.
ReplyDeleteOnce realizing that I saw that I would like to incorporate the Cornell notes because it gives me the opportunity to put on the side any questions of facts that I may need clarification on.
1) when i take notes i just write down what i believe is important information and things that i dnt think i would be able to remember. Now after reading the section on notes i have been doing the t chart method.

1.Which method of note taking do you currently use? Compare your current method of note taking to those in the reading, which strategies can add to your note taking.
ReplyDeleteMy note taking method would be the outline method of taking notes. Writing down the notes as the most important things would be starrred and the subjects of each section we go over will be used by a roman numeral. and the next subscript will be a letter and then the next a 1.2.3..Then I will use the lower cased letters if there is anythinf below that that would pertain to the suject.
2.What are some of your barriers to active listening? What ideas from the reading can you incorporate into your active listening?
Some of my barriers to my active listening would be the boring teachers who just talk and doesnt have any class participation. When they get to talking to much they get tuned out. and I start thinking bout other class assignments. I could incorporate taking more notes and asking question when he totallyloses me on a subject.
Agreeing with Markia daniels, im in the same boat...to where as my teachers use powerpoint presentation and I also tend to reminincse and day dream in class.
ReplyDelete1)I realized i use numerous methods of note-taking...at first when different professor used powerpoint presentation I would copy specicific and find it in my book...but as for now I print out the whole presentation and jot down keywords or phrases next to each slide...if need be, also the cornell version of note-taking is very useful but I still prefer my own.
2)some barriers I have in a classroom is that i can get easily distracted...i sometimes zone out because of a good day dream...but some how I am still attentive in class...If a teacher asks me a question...my response will be an answer instead of a 'huh'...
