  2. 1. I think I did very well on my mid-terms. However, to improve my vocabulary, speed and comprehension, I can take practice tests, read my books, and read over my notes to ensure that I know the material.
    2. The SQ3R Method is Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. There are helpful ways to teach this plan to middle school students. I think the most helpful way to teach this plan to the students would be to exhibit the plan myself. I could help them survey the chapter and highlight important material. While highlighting the material, I could ask them what questions they have about the chapter. By doing so, this will give them a jump start to see if they are understanding the material. While reading, I could tell them to point out captions and bold words, because they are important and many people don't realize that while reading. After going over the material, the student can recite the info for me and this will also help them learn the material. When everything is done, we will both do a thorough review.

  3. 1. i think i done very well on my mid-term. the ways that i can improve my vocabulary, speed, and comprehension is to read. reading is the way to expaned your vocabulary, comprehension, and speed. as well as knowledge.

    2. The SQ3R Method is Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. I think the best way to teach this to middle school students is showing them how to use their own way of studying and adding the SEQR method to whatever the style of learning maybe.

    1. After reviewing my midterm grades, I could use strategies such as practice tests so that I won't freeze up on tests. I have larned that I know he material on the test but when I get the test I get nervous and don't do as well as I could. I could take practice tests and take necessary steps to improve my test taking skills and reduce test taking anxiety.

    2. Since the SQ3R Method refers to Surveying, Questioning, Reading, Reciting, and Reviewing, I would go about teaching it this way: Read the chapter title; survey what the students think it means, Questioning: ask the students questions to see if they know about the topic and if they know anything about it, ask what they know, Reading: have the students to read the chapter (of course) and take notes, Reciting: have the students read aloud the notes they have taken (can be helpful because we all learn from our peers), give a quiz or test, Review: After the assessment, go back and review what was learned.

  5. 1. After reviewing my midterm grades, to ensure my success this semester I need to practice reading and writing on a regular basis.

    2. To teach the SQ3R method to middle schoolers I would first have them survey the material. This means I would have them take a general glance at everything and then let them ask questions. Following the questions they would read the material, looking for answers to their questions. Following that, they would take notes on what they wrote and then have to recite that information to me. After one final review of the material they ought to have everything together... or else.

Alex: Teaching by example is normally a great way to go and I think its a good idea to try and teach the SQ3R method that way.

Garion: I agree that reading is awesome. It works wonders.

Aeryka: I like your idea on how to teach the SQ3R method to the middle school student. I like it so much that my method is very similar.

1.) i have seen my midterm grades and i have to say i am satisfied so far with it. The "c" in this class has got to go though. i need to make sure all my assignments are done ahead of time and that the assignments emailed are emailed more than once so there is no "C".

2.) to teach the SQ3R(SUrveying Questioning Reading Reciting Reviewing) I would agree with her above me. THere is no better way to explain.

  7. 1.) after reviewing my midterm grades, I believe it gave me an idea of which classes I really need improvement in, and what I need to comtinue to do to keep the good grades that I have. I noticed that I have to study a little had in my chemistry and math, as well as do my assignments in a timely fashion.

2.)To teach the SQ3r method I would teach by example and also give examples of the best ways to do each method, and when to use them.

  8. 1) My strategies for improving my mid term grades for vocabulary, speed and comprehension would be to read more and start annotating while reading books, and highlight words I don't understand and go back and review them once I'm finish to get a better understanding.

2)(SQ3R Step 1—Survey)Studying begins with surveying the text material,(SQ3R Step 2—Question )Once students have surveyed the text or a chapter, they are ready to ask questions they hope to have answered as they read,(SQ3R Step 3—Read )Once students have surveyed the text or a chapter and written their questions, they are ready to read the chapter, one section at a time. Have students pay attention to any key terms,(SQ3R Step 4—Recite) After reading a section, students can ask—and then answer—the questions they asked in Step 2. This self-check allows students to see what they have learned,(SQ3R Step 5—Review)Once students have completed steps 1 through 4,and have them review the chapter

  9. 1. For improving vocabulary you can look in the dictionary when you come across a word you dont know or understand. To improve speed and concentration you have to improve yoou concentration by decreasing distaractions and setting a goal to help you focus. Always reading more often can help with all three of these.

    2. To teach the SQ3R Method (to a middle school student i would: teach them to This is away to approach a chapter and study it right the first time. First they should SURVEY- look at the big picture or main idea of the chapter. Next, QUESTION- ask who what when and why as they go through the chapter. Lastly, READ-this is where you answer the questions you asked during the question portion of SQ3R,RECITE-sit down with someone else and quiz yourself, and REVIEW- go back and read the chapter again.

  10. 1. After reviewing my mid terms grades, the strategies for improving vocabulary, speed and comprehension go to the library at least 3 times a week to read a book, after reading write down everything about the story, and read my notes at least once are twice a week.

2.To teach the SQ3R Method to a middle school student I would first tell them everything I know about the SQ3R. After I finish we eould come up with a strategies for studying. We would take one subject to do the SQ3R Step 1 Survey look at the big picture. Step 2 Question we would make up question to better understand. Step 3 Read we would read the chapter. Step 4 Recite we sit down and take a quiz. Step 5 Review go back and read the chapter again.

    1. I would first try to use bigger words as synonyms for words I normally use. For speed I can start to read more often and with comprehension take my time more.

2.To teach this method I would first give them some background information on it and then pick a topic that they are having the most trouble in. We would then go into depth about it until they understand by giving examples and going through the chapter. After reading we would do a recap.

  13. 1) To ensure success this semester I’m going to be use the following strategies to improve my vocabulary, speed, and comprehension: eliminating outside and internal distractions, taking short breaks every 20 minutes while reading, and stopping to define words I do not know.

    2) SQ3R is a simple, yet effective studying tool. It involves five easy steps: Surveying, Questioning, Reading, Reciting, and reviewing. SQ3R should be used on a daily basis. The first step of the process is surveying and it’s just pre-reading information. Next is questioning, to better understand the materials you are going over ask questions. The most common questions are: Who? When? What? Where? and Why? The third step is to read. Read slowly and carefully. After the reading step it’s reciting. In this process you are encouraged to discuss with others the main points of the chapter. Try explaining the information to each other without looking at your notes. The last step is to review. This step just requires you to re-read your notes and other information. To help a middle school student understand this SQ3R I would have them do with each of the steps. I would assist them to be sure they understand it.

    1. After reviewing my midterms, the strategies I would use to improve my reading, vocabulary, and comprehension skills would be to continue to read all the time. already read multiple books a week and I am going to continue doing so.

    2. To teach the SQ3R, I would present the basics of it,survey, question, read, recite, review, to the middle school students. Then I would have them pair off to act out the SQ3R with their peers instead of just with an instructor standing in front of them boring them with the basics.Kids tend to learn from repetition and being interactive so we would repetatively use the SQ3R method on topics that stimulate them so that they will ready and able to use it in other areas.

  16. Garion,
Congrats on your mid-terms. I also think reading is an important factor to enhance your vocabulary, reading and speed.

    Lauren,
Thank you, and I think that your way of teaching the SQ3R method would be beneficial and productive as well. You must know what you're reading and or studying for before you actually get to the actual work.

  24. After reviewing my midterm grades I see that to improve my understanding of some material I need to actually study instead of skim. When I skim its usually at th last minute for a test and that isn't helping me at all, especially when there are questions on the next test that expand on the concepts from previous chapters.

The best way to explain anything is with an example and I don't see any reason to re-invent the wheel in trying to explain the SQ3R method..

    1. After reviewing my mid-term grades the stratigies I could use for improving my vocabulary, speed, and comprehension are rereading the text after class, reviewing and studying my notes more often, and practice test.
    2. The SQ3R method is survey, question, read recite and review. The easiest way of doing your best on tests is by making sure you accomplish the SQ3R. Make a checklist, including SQ3R, for your subjects. As you have completed a task check it off. This is the code to success.

After reviewing my mid-term grades the strategies that I found helpful for this semester is to 1) SEEK help, in college its every man for him-self. 2) ASK questions, no matter what someone else does or thinks ask if you need some help or clarification. 3) PRACTICE, practice makes almost perfect. When you practice you better yourself. Be consistent.

    2. Make up a plan to teach/explain the SQ3R Method to a middle school student. (Post your plan)

The SQ3R means Survey questions. The 3R’s are
    1. Reading
    2. Recite
    3. Review
This means I would have them take a broad glance at everything and then I’d let them ask questions. After answering the questions they would read the material, then look for answers to their questions. Next they would take notes on what they wrote and then have to recite that information to me. After one final review of the material they should know everything that was taught.

  31. A way to increase your vocabulary would be to pick a new word out of the dictionary everyday, and incorporate it. To improve the skills of reading and comprehension would be to decrease distractions, and increase the profecientcy which one reads.

2.The SQ3R Method is Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and review. If was to teacha middle school student this method, I would have the student to do this method in the sequence which it was written.First Survey main idea in the chapter.Question, ask who, what, when, where, why. Lastly, reading answering the questions previously posed. After which recite with a neighbor or friend. Finally, review going back thrugh the chapter.

  32. 1.) After reviewing my midterm grades(which were not pleasing at all LORD) I realized that I really need to buckle down and get focused. Some strategies I will use for improving my grades and study habits is to reduce my internal distractions that cause me to day dream. Also I will turn off my cell phone and tv (unless a football game is on) to study so that I wont be distracted. Lastly, I should read more. I admit I have been slacking lately.

2.) In teaching the SQ3R I would first tell the students to survey the chapter by skimming through the chapter and looking at different charts and graphs. Next I will tell the students to question what they read and attempt to answer the questions that they raised. Next I will tell them to read each section thoroughly. Next I would tell them to try and discuss what they have learned.Lastly I will tell them to review what they have read and their notes.

  34. 1. After reviewing your Mid-term grades, what strategies for improving vocabulary, speed and comprehension would be helpful to ensure your success this semester. (List 3)
After reviewing my mid-term grades time-management and diligence are just the surface of things that will help me to improve my vocabulary, speed, and comprehension to have a successful semester. A few other things that will help me carry out a successful semester are:
1.) Meeting with my teachers regularly to check in and make sure I am on track with my class work.
2.) Using my time wisely and remembering that my sole purpose for college is to obtain an education. Yes, the events and off-campus activities are fun, but there is a time to play and a time to get serious and that time has come.
3.) Last but not least make sure I am financially stable in order to make sure I am not distracted and concentrate on my studies. I plan to budget my money and spend wisely.

    2. Make up a plan to teach/explain the SQ3R Method to a middle school student. (Post your plan
If I were to explain the SQ3R Method to a middle school student, this is how I would go about doing so. I would start off by telling them that SQ3R stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. SQ3R is study systems in order to help students comprehend their textbook.
Step 1: SURVEY- review titles, headlines, review the captions under pictures, and look over any review questions your instructor gave you.
Step 2: QUESTION-ask yourself what did the chapter you just read mean? Ask yourself a series of questions in order to reassure that you know the information you just read.
Step 3: READ- read the selection that was given to you. Look for answers to the questions that you supplied when asking questions.
Step 4: RECITE- after you have finished rereading your selection you need to go back over it and then try to summarize it. You can do this in your head or out loud. You should highlight important points that were made in the text.
Step 5: REVIEW- review the material and make sure it is fresh in your mind. Summarize what you have just read and review it during your study times.
After going through the steps with the students I will make sure they fully understand what we went over. I would make sure they are equipped with handouts* in order for them to refer back to the materials, and that will be the lesson.

  36. 1. I think I did fairly well on my midterms. The only problem I had was my dance class midterm which was mostly on vocabulary. To improve my vocabulary I can study harder and use the dictionary to look up words that are unfamiliar to me. To improve speed I should study more so that I can be able to run through easy questions on my exams so that I can spend more of my time on the task that are most difficult for me. I am having the most problems with comprehension in my English and Physical Science classes. In English, I have trouble understanding what the professor is asking for on each assignment because she changes her requirements so much. In Physical Science I have a problem with the units we use and converting the units. To improve my comprehension skills I will meet with my professors during their office hours and explain the problem that I am having so we can work on a solution together.

    2. SQ3R is a method for active elaboration of material that you read. It consists of five steps. Those five steps are:
    1. Survey
    2. Question
    3. Read
    4. Recite
    5. Review
My plan to teach/explain the SQ3R method to a middle school student would be:

    1. Surveying should last about a minute. This should be the time to skim the reading and focus on main ideas and headings that are important.

    2. Questioning usually lasts about 30 seconds. Form questions for yourself to answer about the chapter. What is this chapter trying to say?? Pose questions for each chapter.

    3. Reading is the next step and it takes longer for some people than others. Read one section at a time looking for the answer to the question proposed by the heading. This is active reading and requires concentration so find yourself a place and time where you can concentrate.

    4. Reciting is the next step and all this means is that you should read the information out loud so that you can better retain what you have learned.

    5. Reviewing is the last step. After you have repeated steps 2-4 for each section you have a list of key phrases that provides a sort of outline for the chapter. Test yourself by covering up the key phrases and seeing if you can recall them. Do this right after you finish reading the chapter. If you can't recall one of your major points, that's a section you need to reread.

Reading is important because some things in the lecture you may have missed but if you go back and read the text, you will be able to get all the information you need to exceed on the exam.

    @ JASMINE HARDMAN

It is important to take your time on the exam. In some of my classes people finish an exam in 20 minutes and leave. They are usually the ones who don't do well on the exams.

    - Continue to study effectively
    - Continuing to write on my personal to further enhance my writing skills
-Reading on a regular basis outside of class and during leisure time

2.)I world first explain to them exactly what the SQ3R is (Survey,Questiuon, Read, Recite, Review). Next i would set forth a simple example, perhaps a word in a text that may be "advanced" for them. After surveying the text n finding a word, i would then pose the question as to what the word means or could possibly mean, then making refernce to a dictionary. After discovering the definiton in the dictionary i would have them practice the "3 r's", that way not only would they go home learning a new word, but as well a new strategy.

2)I would explain to them that the method is surver, question, read, recite, and review. The best way i think to teach middle school students is through active learning so maybe having them play some type of game to rememebr. Jeapordy is always a fun and active way to learn.

Reading anything that interest you would help. Other strategies are takning practice test to prepare yourself for a test. I believe that would be helpful to ensure your success this semester.

2)First I would expain to students the meaning of SQ3R. I would let them know that it means survey, question, read, recite, and review. A method that I would use to teach middle school students would be to use hands on activities to keep their interest.

    1) My strategies for improving my mid term grades for vocabulary, speed and comprehension would be to read more and practice better study habbits devote more time to comprehinsion. also read read and reread until my self gets a good understanding.

    2) Step 1—Survey Studying begins with surveying the text material,SQ3R Step 2—Question Once the student gets full understanding of the txt he/she while be asked to write any questions that they don't understand Step 3—Read Once students have surveyed the text or a chapter and written their questions, it is not time to read the chapter, section by section. Have students pay attention to any key terms defintions, and key words. Step 4 Recite After reading a section, students can ask—and then answer—the questions they were asked to do in step2.SQ3R Step 5 Review Once students has completed steps 1 through 4,I will have the students go over their work and make sure that it's what I have asked for.

@Alexandria Morre, your idea of explaining the meaning of SQ3R to middle school students unaware of the meaning is all some.

@Cherelle, as of now I too have a "c" in Du901, and for me it's unacceptable. To ensure that I have a better grade for finals I’m going to do some of the same things you have planned to better your grade.

    2. The SQ3R method would be simple for me to teach to a middle school student. First i would tell them to survey or go over the work and then ask any questions they have. next i would have them read and recite their work. after some brief studying and work i would review to make sure everything is clear and that all the students understand wut is goin on.

  55. To Raymond,

Reading is a great way to enhance many literal skills such as reading writing and enhanced vocabulary.

    To Kimyana,

Having them reread something if they dont understand it doesnt always work so you may need to explain it to them or help find clues to helping them understand the text.

    To Raven,

Combining SQ3R with something the students like may first get them to understand how to use the method which is what they need to know in order to apply it to material they havent learned.

1.)After getting my midterms grades back i saw areas of improvement. The first area was to get tutioring. i need to reread all the things i do before i turned them in because of the mistake i could have avoided. so reading is a great method to use and analyzing the things before turning your work in.

2.)To teach a middle school student SQ3R is to show them how its done, to explain to them the importance of each one. to show them how you use them in your everyday life it can be easier.

To Alexandria you are correct you can never be to sure about the materials you can always miss something.

to mostly all of us we tend to get lazy at time so if we all see areas of improving and know what we need 2 change then we can be better students.

    1. After reviewing my midterm grades, i will use the strategies that i have been using, which are to read and write frequently, even when your instructor have not yet assigned you a reading or writing assignment.

    2. If i was put in the position to teach middle schoolers the survey, question, read, recite and review method, i would start off by teaching that it is okay to ask questions. The main thing i would focus on, is teaching them that it is okay to ask questions and that they shouldn't be ashamed because there is no such thing as a stupid question.

    2. SQ3R is a method for active elaboration of material that you read. It consists of five steps. Those five steps are:
    1. Survey-Put out handouts and fun docements for improved learning
    2. Question-answer any questions.
    3. Read-Read to middle school students at a fun and real exticment.
    4. Recite-Keep updates on the students progress.

    1. After reviewing your Mid-term grades, what strategies for improving vocabulary, speed and comprehension would be helpful to ensure your success this semester? (List at least 3)
I do not believe I need to improve my vocabulary, speed, nor my comprehension to ensure my success this semester. Although it never hurts to read to strengthen those areas. However, I do believe that I need to study harder and more effectively in hopes to comprehend what has been taught. Studying aggressively and constantly will make a definite difference.

    2. Make up a plan to teach/explain the SQ3R Method to a middle school student. (Post your plan)
I believe the SQ3R is a way to educated through the usage of surveying, questioning, reading, reciting, and reviewing because it allows one to use multiple methods of learning. I would teach this to a middle school student by informing them of different type of methods that can help them study, understand, and become successful in any subject. For example if someone needs to study for a history test they should first ask questions of the teacher that are unclear in the text, reread the text, and then recite the message learned in the text so they are aware of what to know in order to be successful.

I did well on my mid-term examinations. I feel I could be doing better in Chemistry. So I plan on improving my study skill in that class and make sure I'm working hard. MY goal is to have at least a 3.5 by the end of the semester. I'm close but just not there yet.

2.In order to correctly and accurately use the SQ3R Method students must understand each aspect involved.
-Survey (1 minute): Before beginning reading look through the whole chapter. See what the headings are -- the major ones and the subheadings.
-Question (usually less than 30 seconds): Ask yourself what this chapter is about: What is the question that this chapter is trying to answer?
-Read (slower for some of us than others!): Read one section at a time looking for the answer to the question proposed by the heading! This is active reading and requires concentration so find yourself a place and time where you can concentrate.
-Recite/write (about a minute): Say to yourself or write down a key phrase that sums up the major point of the section and answers the question. It is important to use your own words.
-Review (less than 5 minutes): After repeating steps 2-4 for each section you have a list of key phrases that provides a sort of outline for the chapter. Test yourself by covering up the key phrases and seeing if you can recall them.

    2. The SQ3R Method is Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. I would explain the process to a middle student as it was presented to me. First I help tell the student to survey the material which means that they should look at the titles and subtitles and make inferences about the material. Next I would tell the student to read the material carefully and pay close attention to bold and italicized words. The student should then write down the importants points in the text or any questions that they may have and go back to find the answers. Writing and reciting helps you memorize information, so I would tell the students to make note cards and recite them as often as possible.

After reviewing my grades from mid semester assessments studying would would be the first on my list. I was told that I was suppose to be studying seven hours a day to actually get a grade worth something in the world. Another strategy I will do is get organized and get my priorities straight I have not yet ran across any major dilemmas but I am preparing for them. Last strategy would be to try to keep up with the work load and to read more so that my comprehension can excel. Reading harder books and reading different styles of writ=ing my goal...

2.Make up a plan to teach/explain the SQ3R Method to a middle school student. (Post your plan)

I will sit down and ask the young child how do they study?

Then, I would explain to them a better way of studying sauch as the SQ3R.

I wouldnt say there way was wrong but to try a different way and see if its the best way for them cause people are different and dont always react the same way as others may produce in the system of studying.

When explaining to them the SQ3R. I would ask if they kno what it is?

Then explain that it means Survey, Question, Read, Write, and Recite.

Survey means to read the index and contents in the beginning of the chapter.

Question means read any of the questions that is within or asked by the teacher to answer.
Read the chapter. Write notes on the chapter and finally recite everything out loud and make sure they understand the chapter and if they have any question they should read over there notes.
